Fighting large groups of enemies
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:00:05 pm »

So, recently my most successful adventurer died. He was the only one of my guys that advanced from taking quests from peasants onto taking quests from lords and ladies (probably because I let my companions do all the work). So, I get this quest to kill some goblin outlaw and I assemble a force of 10 guys (3 hammers, pike, spear, 2 axes, sword, mace and me). I arrive at the camp and find that the enemy has about the same number of guys. However, my companions divide into two groups and gang up on two random gobbos. One of the axeman attacks the captain and gets owned and I get murdered by a gang of all the remaining goblins. So, I have a question. Is there any way to make your party spread out or something. I'm sure that if we all took on one enemy at a time, we would easily win.

You troops will attack the first enemy they see, if they see multiple they will go for the closest. I suppose you could just jump in with one of the groups and cut the gobbos down until your soldiers decide to move to the next enemy.

Enter the battle sneaking, and then pick your targets while they are occupied.
Thats my favorite tactic, and it works fine.

Demons are preferable to ravens.
A noble just suffered a genuine unfortunate accident.
Has that ever happened before?

Unfortunately, there isn't any way to give orders to companions.  It's on the dev list as a feature to be implemented, but it's not in right now.

I usually just go solo to avoid the insanely dumb companion AI.

Problem is, unless you're a legendary+300 bogeyman slayer, you're restricted to spots a half day away. I usually just bring one companion (the one with the armor I most want, probably) and sleep right outside the bandit camps. Let them kamikaze the guys, and you can have their -black steel mask- or something when you're done with your sneaky thing.
