A couple of additions suggested
« on: December 26, 2010, 12:58:24 pm »

Actually old suggestions refined a bit but anyway...

New issue, religion

Since many C+ laws are inspired by religion, having this issue C+ or C should naturally accelerate conservative ideas in fields such as abortion or gay rights. In a C+ religious society, Witchcraft is a serious offence, and results from doing anything with LARP stuff. Also, a couple of new characters to appear in conservative religious societies:

Witch - Liberal with average stats, high charisma (witch accusations were often made out of jealousy), start with Witchcraft crime flag.
Witch Hunter - Difficulty about SWAT-level. Armed, evil conservatives. Will invade safehouses that protect witchcrafters.
Crusader - Found loitering about randomly, or accompanying safehouse raids. The Christian equivalent to soldiers.
Monk - May be of any alignment. Master of martial arts. Sticks around but gets rare as society gets more liberal.

Military base

The driving force of the conservative raids, the Military base is packed full of fun!

- Recruits that may be anything from conservative to liberal (influenced by military spending) and anything from unarmed to hideously equipped (spending and gun control)
- Soldiers (you know them)
- MPs, deadly madmen armed to the teeth
- General Officers, with good combat skills and a persuasion attack
- Some random out-of-place civvies
- Distress signal - Activate the strategic bombers as they did in Dr. Strangelove!

Camp Jesus/Moses/Eliah/God/Conversion/Jehovah/Christ/Crusade/Crucifix/Chastity/Salvation/Virtue/Lazarus/Retribution/Whatever

Wanna smack the fundamentalists in the face?

- Children imprisoned in the camp by their parents, just waiting to be released!
- The aforementioned religious types
- Good old fashioned priests
- The occasional CEO, Radio personality or whatever dropping their kid off to conversion therapy to avoid public humiliation
- Security guards. You don't want the kids to escape, right?

Of course, the camp will remain the fortress of Fundamental Fun even after the society rejects its counterproductive commitments.

Game mechanics

Science, religion and business skills should give a boost to influencing related issues. Science works with GM, animal research, pollution, nuclear power etc, religion with abortion, gay rights, women's rights etc and business with labour rights, corporate laws etc. A new skill to give to the Generals and other such folk would be patriotism, which would suit military spending, gun control, immigration... The idea is that people with no knowledge of what they are fighting against are just shooting around when at the site. People who can truly reason why they did it are bound to gather more respect.

EDIT: Stealth action

When conservatives are unalarmed, a liberal may not provoke an alarm (immediately) when attacking a conservative. This works with melee weapons only, as gunshots can be heard. Chances of remaining undetected are determined by stealth skill and how quick the target dies (how many liberals need to attack before the target dies), with a penalty for each conservative witness (only real ninjas can do stealth hits in front of a crowd) and a HUGE penalty for using a non-concealable weapon (it's very hard not being spotted carrying one, let alone murdering with it). Also, any combat rolls against unalarmed conservatives should yield a surprise bonus.

Science could also modify you bluff roll in the nuclear plant, the cosmetics lab, and the genetics lab.  Religion could do the same in the fundy camp, and any other highly conservative/religious buildings.

Of course, a lot of the stuff like Mithril mail, the Sword of Morfrigor, and other similar Halloween items should get you witchcraft accusations.

Yeah, precisely what I mean by LARP stuff. This isn't originally my idea, it was jokingly suggested by someone else ages ago if I recall correctly.

With the last one, there should be ninjas.

High agility, disguise, stealth, knife/sword, martial arts, dodge. When the alarm is raised, they might appear out of nowhere and attack you. With a founder with enough crimes, they might infiltrate for assassination missions, and they might show up during sieges. Wears ninja gear, which gives a stealth and dodge bonus and is as hard to make as Expensive suits/dresses.

Two things
1)Why would there be ninjas? This is conservitive america, they don't need no asians mucking up their good american ways.   Assassins is a high probiblity, but they would be dressed either like the guy from the Hitman games, or just be guys with sniper rifles
2)If the ninja suit where added it shouldn't be makeable, only ninjas have the secrets of makeing it, you need to recruit one or steal it off of their corpses.

And wouldn't assassins/ninjas be rather Liberal, what with the lack of law following, violence, and such?  I mean ninja's especially since they have honor.

Incorrect. Most assassins are usually hired by governments when they don't want their hands directly dirtied, and otherwise tend to be highly priced so only the rich(and thus conservitive) can afford them. Ninjas had very very very little 'honor', the most of it being loyalty to their clan and temporarily to the person who pays for them, if they even sold their services.
When talking about honorable warriors in japanese society you're thinking Samurai, not ninja.

Actually, ninjas would probably be liberal. They were the peasant masses that opposed the oppressive samurai nobles. However, the ninjas I was talking about were ninja-trained Americans. Liberal ninjas would appear when immigration laws got less conservative.

Y'know the Shinobi existed before the 15th century when they became primarily mercs. Prior to that they were conscripted spies and soldiers, so they would, in fact, have been honorable.

The key word there being conscripted, they where being payed by someone to do their jobs, it was just working for a government figure and staying with them for a long time. The reason Shinobi where loathed by many was becouse they forsook honor to get the job done, plain and simple. Even useing a Shinobi wasn't consitered honorable, which is why even when everyone used them they where kept as much a secret as possible. A Shinobi's 'honor' came of getting their job done, no more no less, unlike many other postitions in society, especially other ones involveing killing, which had many rules one was expected to abide by.

And samurai's armor, weapons, and fighting style was all designed to fight unarmed/lightly armed peasants and untrained personal.  And thier tactics were largely based on getting behind the enemy army and killing their workforce, wives, children, and anyone left behind with not much more then a pitchfork.  so yet again.... not very honorable.
