Angelknife, a succession game
« on: December 25, 2010, 09:48:41 pm »

I'm interested in starting a new succession game. I've already chosen an area which I think would be quite good for the purposes of awesomeness, and here it is.

As you can see, this area is freezing taiga, but there's plenty of trees and enough evil to be Fun. I propose four day turns of one year each, so that everybody actually gets a go.
If at least five people show some interest, then I'll begin, unless someone desperately wants to have the first turn. Also, is there any particular embark setup requested?

I'm in for the next available year, which appears to be 4.

A small suggestion:

I say we move the embark up a few spaces, just enough for the brook to be incorporated in the corner or something. I just like having an infinite water source at surface level. I say we make the embark area slightly smaller to compensate for the FPS. In even my most long-lasting forts I haven't run out of room on a 4x4.

Sure. How does this embark setup sound to you guys:

-2 miner/masons
-2 woodcutter/carpenters
-1 farmer/brewer
-1 military dwarf
-1 crafter/engineer/forge operator

My favorite is 3 Miners, 1 Wood Cutter/Carpenter, 1 Farmer/Gatherer/Brewer/etc, 1 Military, 1 Crafter/Mason

Don't bother spending points on forge operator, since there is no quality modifiers.  I'd use the points to give one of them broker/appraiser skills

Yeah, three miners would be more productive than two lumberjacks. Don't forget to get enough picks; I once took four miners and only three picks -- such a waste.

I'll drop in for year 6, assuming it survives that far. And yeah, 5x5 is awfully large. Shrink that to a 3x3 or 4x4 if you can, and surface rivers are always nice. Also, which, if any, mods have been applied? And just one thing I'd like to suggest for embark, if possible, would be to toss a point into weapon- or armor-making for the farmer, since then he'll have a useful mood skill, instead of defaulting to crafts. Just saying.

No mods, just a graphics set (Mayday's), because I just think it looks nicer. Now that there seems there are a few people interested, I guess I'll start.
Here is the new embark location, a bit north and west of the old one.

I guess I'll get started then.

Count me in, tack me on to the end of the current cycle! Next available dwarf that can be molded by Armok into a miner/smith (any and all smithing jobs).

I am an idiot. I started playing with an older version of the game, instead of the one I should be using.  :-[ I'll just casually restart and pretend no-one noticed.
