Merry Christmas Everyone
« on: December 25, 2010, 09:57:45 am »

To all my friends at B12, even the sourheads, enjoy your celebration of Christ's birth or the Catholic patron saint of children and merchants. Or if you're Jewish, enjoy a day off from work...

Oh wait, its Saturday. You got this day off anyway and probably have to go to synagogue.

Well enjoy the very light traffic!

Thanks for not including any other faith or lack thereof bro.

Also, pretty sure Jesus was born in the summer or something and his birthday was moved or something like that.

Happy holidays.

Yeah, December 25th was originally some pagan god's birthday, but then Christianity confronted that aspect of Paganism and sort of...ate it. As far as we can tell from what little records there are, if Jesus was real, he was probably born in August. Paganism's assimilation made the "official" date December 25th.

Merry Christmas

My cousin in Afghanistan gave me The Art of Blacksmithing! Who else got a dwarfy gift?

There is actually a Bangladeshi shop down the road that stays open on Christmas.  It's pretty useful.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

PPE: No.  But I did get a Christmas tree that attaches to my USB port.

Happy Saturnalia, bay watchers.

PS.  That is such an awesome present, Nikov.  You'll be a legendary blacksmith in no time.

Just heard John Hodgman on This American Life, reading an excerpt of his latest book regarding the history of the Christmas tree (which apparently involved Prince Albert and a It's a Wonderful Life scenario with a latter-day druid). Quote:

Quote
"And it is still said that every time a bell rings, a second-class druid gets his golden sickle, and a British heathen witch-king finally finds the love of his people."

This made my day.
