Installing Windows 7 Ultimate (64x) from a Flash Drive
« on: December 24, 2010, 09:51:42 pm »

So, yeah, I'm trying to get Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (ain't that a mouthful?) to install from a flash drive. I've used the ISO transferrer thing from Microsoft (which has worked in the past), but it doesn't seem like my thingy is recognising it.

I keep getting "No boot drive found" errors, despite - as far as I can tell - everything being set up correctly.

Help please. =(

Have you set up your BIOS to boot from it?
That's the only thing I can think of.

Yep.

It started out on that, in fact. "Boot from removable drive".

I'm thinking some of the ports might not work for this USB drive. =/

This problem occurs because the Bootsect program that the program you use to flash the ISO to the Flash Drive is incompatible with 32 bit windows. The Iso must be flashed on a 64 bit system, or otherwise the program's bootsect executable must be replaced with the 32 bit verison. All this program does is write a boot sector to the flash drive so that the computer recognizes it as a bootable device. Hope that helps.

As for actually acquiring the proper bootsect program file... I'm still working on that one.
