From my mother's family, I got a lot of books for Christmas.  I also got a black coat covered in embroidery, which, other than the ripped-out seams, moth holes, and missing buttons, is amazing.  It'll look great once I fix it up a little bit.

The more important thing is that, for the first time in my life, no one tried to give me jewelry or other "girly" things in some effort to rescue from my purported deathtrap nerdiness.  They actually listened to me when I said "I would like books that you think are good."

Finally.  Finally, they've started listening.

From what their previous gifts sound like, I would have assumed they got you Twilight or something :P

Nope.

The History of Zero
Surely You're Joking, Mister Feynman
Arcadia
Calculus on Manifolds
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

And a journal, and a little book for writing people's birthdays in.  The latter will also double as a book to write holidays in, because my ability to remember dates is somewhat lacking.

I am too lazy to google those books, what are they about? I am always looking for something else to read.

Zero - it's about the number zero (hurrdurr)
Surely You're Joking, Mister Feynman - it's about the physicist Richard Feynman, but more autobiography and humor than scientific text.  Also neat if you want to know how to pick locks.
Arcadia - it's a play about the second law of thermodynamics (apparently)
Calculus on Manifolds - . . . I recommend starting with Rudin's Principles of Real Analysis, although Spivak's work is celebrated
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - I'm not telling you because that would ruin it, but it's extremely good.  The main character is a 9-year-old who is more 9-year-oldy than pretty much any other kid I've seen written in print.  Definitely one of those Novels.

I also read The Cider House Rules recently, which was a fictional work about abortion and other things but still a good read (and somehow managed to escape the ham-handedness I had anticipated).  Doctor Larch is an excellent character.  If you've seen the movie and are saying nay due to that, I'd still suggest trying the book--the plotlines were far better laid out than in the film version, or so I hear.

Yup.

I got ~30GB MP4 Player (seriously, dad's Italian girlfriend, wtf?), a couple of shirts, and a hakuma to go with my vintage kimono, which I will cherish forever. :-*

I apparently got a shitload of snow. It's outside, help yourself if you want any.  :o

Beyond that, I got a set of footie pajamas. It's kind of tricky to make one-piece footie pajamas for adults, so these are kind of somewhere between a cleanroom suit and a prison jumpsuit, but slightly more pajama-y. And I got a Wii game, but it looks to be made of FAIL, so hopefully I can return it and use the refund towards NHL2K11 or Gretzky's Slapshot.
want the snow and Gretzky is ok (fricking awesome dude) i just hate Crosby.

I'm one of those rare people who actually likes Ovechkin *and* Crosby. Didn't particularly care to see Ovie score the winning goal AGAINST my team last night, but the guy can play.

I'm leaning heavily toward Slapshot just because NHL2K11 is apparently pretty buggy. But then Kirby's Epic Yarn looks pretty cool too.

If you're gonna play hockey put a nail on you're stick.

My great uncle did that. Got him the nickname "The Hatchet Man"

Are you sure? He was also smart enough that his mother was prompted to say to my Grandfather "Hey stupid come get some lunch!"

No but he was described as "The nastiest hockey player I've ever seen."

If you want to be on a team, don't play like him.

A few late things to add from companies who create our beloved video games: 50 Prestige points from the Illyriad devs, and 3000NX points from Nexon.

Granted, the Nexon one wasn't exactly for Christmas(I think the email said they hit a million cash shop purchases for MapleStory), but I'll count it as one.
