Nobody wants anything to do with me
« on: December 24, 2010, 08:27:25 pm »

I have tried to get into LCS in the past and I'm trying again. I have gone for the agile thief build (All A answers). For some reason none of the hippies in the vegan co-op are interested in my politics. Is this typical for an agile thief build?

Cheers.

What's your persuasion skill? It's been nerfed recently I think.

If you're playing LCS 4.02, from my understanding, yeah, it is typical. You're going to have to increase your founder's persuasion skill in order to achieve success. No longer can our virtual representatives saunter into respectable Liberal establishments and decree, "HOKAY, IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE! WHO WANTS TO CHANGE WITH ME!?" and achieve success without being able to convince others to do so. Hippies, of course, have high Heart and are very malleable, but even they can represent a strong front of opposition when you want allies. You can either engage in a persuasion-increasing activity or set your sights lower than hippies; druggie-infested corridors should yield results.

I have no persuasion skill...

Yeah I'm playing 4.02. I'll have to give the crack house a try.

Edit: While sneaking around in the court house the founder got in a little trouble and found some police waiting for him outside. He outran two of three only to have the last shoot him down. My new character has some persuasion but get's noticed sooner.

Cheers for your help.

You can learn a lot of the essential skills by taking classes at the university. It's in the activities menu somewhere.

With the new version, you can not recruit anyone without at least one point of persuasion.  However, you can still obtain recruits by freeing slaves/servants, sweatshop workers, prisoners, or child workers.  As previously mentioned, you can learn to persuade via college classes, which are fairly quick.

If you just started, you probably don't have money for college classes. Soliciting donations works too.

You can't recruit anyone without persuasion skill? That seems harsh, especially for new players. What if, as in the OP, you don't have persuasion skill on your founder?

I like it this way actually. Soliciting Donations adds Persuasion skill slowly. Also, Persuasion really rockets up quickly after the first point so eventually you can have your founder teach the other liberals how to do it while making recruits with Persuasion skill more useful without having to make Persuasion rise very slowly.

Also, selling brownies makes a ton of cash (in Nightmare mode at least)

As my founder is an agile thief I, luckily, have few cash problems.

Oddly enough I like it this way also. The only problem I've had is the initial confusion caused by the contrast with the older versions.

Cheers for the help everyone; I'm really getting into LCS now.

Sweatshop workers can still be freed.  Perhaps the founder should always have one point in persuasion, just in case.

Also, perhaps there should be a "prebuilt founder mode", so new players get someone with which they can actually be sucessful.  I'd suggest a founder with persuasion, some fighting skills, $1000, and the starting gang members.  It's way too easy for new players to start off badly with the current system.

An easier system would be to have an intro note for new players that says, "Choose the answers with (*) if this is your first game."  Then have (*) next to the options that would make an ideal starting character.

I think it'd be better to just make the early game less ruthless. It was perfectly fine for some people to be recruitable with zero persuasion. The hippies, crack heads, transients and teenagers are really just waiting for an excuse to risk their lives and limbs for some misguided cause. Having a non-sucky heart and charisma should help as well.

I was originally against this, as I felt it was catering to the more leasurely gamer.

Then I remembered dying multiple times in the first couple month on maximum hard difficulty (active CCS, Conservative nightmare) because I couldn't recruit backup prior to getting raided.

Not to mention that the player can not even recruit all of the above with a single point of persuasion.  So maybe there should be a few zero persuasion recruitables.

Still, sweatshop workers are available, and they are as good as crack heads stat and skill wise.

Sorry to anyone that read this unedited.

Well it is odd to play what is supposed to be the leader of a new cause... who has no ability to lead.

I certainly wouldn't object if all outcomes had some persuasion ability.

As for making early game non-ruthless... I entirely agree. The start of the game, outside hard mode, is supposed to be ordinary America and you are, at least for the moment, an ordinary American.

The harsh however should immediately heap on you all at once.

It seems to me the difficulty curve is backwards... the longer the game is, the easier it gets.
