Might be why so many locks are "Requires a key".

Well, that and the Skeleton Key making it physically impossible to fail a lockpick attempt due to anything other than sheer boredom. (And actually, since you can 'auto-attempt' with the Skeleton Key, boredom shouldn't even be a problem.) Anything that's "Very Hard" is one Daedric Quest away from being trivial to break into.  ;)

I've downloaded and played Nehrim a bit. Word to the wise: unless you have any issues playing the game, don't bother reading the readme. I deselected the oblivion default esp/esm fiiles and it fucked me over but good. couple notes: the black trolls will kill you a lot, and the guards at the first gate tend to disappear if you shoot arrows at the mages. Otherwise, it's a good mod for a good game and really fun to play. the VO is in german but there are english subtitles, which is nice.  i am also planning on installing FCOM when i get back to an area with wireless access for my laptop.

dude what are you talking about the lockpick minigame is really really hard :(
I found it easy from the start of the game myself, figured out the easy patten and could, usually, beat VH locks with one lockpick.
The only thing your Security skill affects is the chances of a slow tumbler, and Mastery level influences the tumblers that drop back down after a failure. Even with bottom-level Security, you can easily get slow tumblers on Very Hard locks. Might be why so many locks are "Requires a key".

Oh locked doors.  That reminds me of another thing I hate about Oblivion.  "Let's put a door in the game that leads nowhere until they buy our DLC!"
I only encountered that once, in anvil.

Well, you're not supposed to fight the black troll. I dunno about your problems with deselecting the default Oblivion stuff, it worked just fine for me. Maybe you installed it wrong(do NOT install it into the Oblivion directory). Not too sure about the guards at the gate, either. I didn't really pay attention to them, but they were there when you finish the soap quest.

I prefer his reaction to Sanguine's Rose. It tells you what daedric cult he was part of instead of just leaveing it hanging. Still, If I HAD to chose which item to give him, from a purely gameplay perspective, I would have to choose the thing Hircine gives you, that armor is near useless.

I wish I didn't have to finish the Umbra quest to get that awesome book.  Leaving it unfinished is rad.  o/

I don't mind haveing an Umbra with weight to be honest, I do hate how there are 3 kickass swords as rewards though for daedric quests, all near the same quality too. Makes chooseing which one you want to use hard. Hell, I forget, is there even a good Axe as a reward? I like axes when playin a full warrior charactor. One handed ones preferibly, but I'd take a two handed one from a daedric quest.

Really?  There was one in Anvil too?  I was talking about the Imperial Orrery.

Akura: Running from the black troll when you have no idea where to go and get trapped in a dead end = death. I installed Nehrim in its own directory (derp). And the guards being gone is a quirk of the AI (such as it is) - shooting an arrow at the mages resulted in the guard running off upp the hill and being gone when I left the mine after getting the dude's helmet off.

The one in Anvil is in the castle and I think, not 100% since I lack the DLC, it leads to the pirate cove thing. I did forget about the Orrery though, but then I only join the mages guild to make my own enchanted items.

Heh, when I got the Skeleton Key I thought it would be fun to throw it into the swamp and see if I could find it again.

I couldn't :s

run the game launcher (Nehrim Launcher) from the start menu, click the button with a cog on it (data files), tick the 3 Nehrim files at the bottom, then ran the game.

I always forget that my terrible laptop can't run oblivion at more than 8 fps at low settings. It just isn't worth it, considering I play that game for the outdoor eye candy.
