night watchmen plus government funded education and healthcare.

that should ensure that all the classes have an equal chance at wealth - would be close to a meritocracy, but you'd still have rich stupid people who inherited it all. but nobody would talk to them.
Why would one want for all classes to have equal chances anyway? If everyone can get a degree, where are we going to get the guys doing the manual labor? I'm all for giving people chances, but sending everyone off to college doesn't realy sound like the best idea to me, and hellishly expensive.

Furthermore, what good are the degrees?

I don't like that people always assume everyone in the world is physically lazy.  I have a degree.  I also love manual labor.  I was happy throwing boxes around at Fedex.  Processing paperwork through customs at a "cushy desk job" is fucking destroying me.  Several people in my office came here from the same place I was working or similar jobs, and they all agree.

The point was equal opportunities with regards to class, not merits.

When did the world start taking your personal preferences into account? People are lazy to the point where they accept a mind-numbing job or a job that'll kill them because it's easier to stay with said job then to find something better. Because the latter would mean they'd have to put an effort into something instead of following the daily routine. You gave the perfect example. You'd prefer to do something useful, but instead you're doing useless paperwork and don't care about getting a better job because you've got a degree and so you're supposed to sit at a desk doing nothing.

Alright, after spending some time thinking it over in the shower, I have come to the realization that all governments on Earth slowly deteriorate into dictatorships. Hell, even America, a "Bastion of Democracy" is currently stuck in a two-party dictatorship, with any third party members shut out of presidential debates.

I am tired of dictatorships, much as everyone else gets tired of a small percentage of the population ruling over a large percentage. As soon as I can vote, I'm signing up with a third party. Damn the Republican Party to Hell, and Damn the Democratic Party to Hell.

But the question then is: Green, Constitution, or Libertarian? They're the only three that matter in terms of U.S. third parties these days. Everyone else is far too small.

Most likely Libertarian. I agree with their ideals the most. Personally, I would prefer an extremely stripped down federal government, and stronger state governments.

Stronger state governments is surely a "localization" thing, not a libertarian thing, though.

I'm a Libertarian-to-be as well, but the party has a serious problem despite being the third largest in the nation. Everyone sees the party's laissez-faire policies, and that immediately eclipses everything else in their eyes. I wish that there was a Humanist Party in the US, but no such thing exists (yet).

Leafsnail, Constitutionalist, really. Although state or local government doesn't have to be stronger, but does need to be given freedom to be what its residents want. Particularly if they want nothing beyond state troopers and highways.

1. Defend the national interest, uphold the rule of law, and mint currency.
This?
Danger: Arch-conservative incoming  ::)

Yes. The only purpose of government is to protect the rights of the individual, anything else invites corruption and abuse.

Communism is a thinly veiled despotism. Socialism is the way to go.

Yes to the first, no to the second. Socialism is nothing but the transition state between the current system (what ever the hell you call it, for it certainly is not capitalism) and communism. When socialism is extrapolated to its logical conclusion it become communism. It advocates the violation of citizens' rights in favour of some undefinable 'common good' which will always be used to justify further government intervention; causing communism!

Libertarianism! I have never understood the contradiction which plagues the modern right; they support greater economic rights (lower taxes etc), but fewer personal rights (Gay marriage etc). It seems weird.

See, I don't think the federal government should decide who can marry who in the first place.

If not the government, then who? Or do you mean to say that state governments should decide?
