My point still stands. They are not as similar as you think. A person proficient in, say, Korean will not automatically be able to read Kanji and vice versa.

Korean (한국어/조선말, see below) is the official language of Korea, both South and North. It is also one of the two official languages in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in China. There's no reason to think there's bad guys behind that door. They drive vehicles, don't they? Yet there is no tracks around. Not to mention the questions raised above, and why they even would be locked in like that to begin with. No, to me it's much more likely to be a stash of some sort. Either way, I think it's better to find out sooner on our own terms, rather than later when our backs' turned.
