Dungeon Master and how to makesure he/she/it arrives
« on: December 24, 2010, 05:46:05 am »

Is there anyway to ensure the Dungeon Master is a usable position, preferably without regening the world.
I'm making a fortress in the first cavern layer. And so far everything I've caught in cage traps needs the DM in order to be tamed. Though if I can safely butcher without taming then my problems are solved, but I honestly doubt that trying to butcher a wild animal without killing it first is unwise  :-\

Take the EXOTIC tag out of the raws then you can train them normally.
Dungeon masters are still bugged I think?

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Russian Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

Does removing the exotic tag require regenning?

no  just reloading

you can either edit and save/load (not sure if that works all the time) or to be sure save game quit df edit and load

.. but be sure to edit the right save raws when you are in a specific game

In the dungeon master entry in entity_default, change him to be appointed by expedition leader rather than whatever he is naturally.

There's a handy little mod that does it all for you: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=59411.0

FYI: Genning a world after removing [EXOTIC]s from the main game file will result in civs taming whatever animals are in their regions, leading to embark options that include giant cave spiders, giant eagles, giant cave swallows, and all other sorts of mind-bogglingly awesome, expensive, and totally game-breaky starting livestock.

In the dungeon master entry in entity_default, change him to be appointed by expedition leader rather than whatever he is naturally.

Is there a way of making the DM a Baron appointee instead?

From a quick look at the raws, it might be that the appointed by baron and up might be what is bugged. Maybe...

Hmm.  Does a DM appointed by the expo leader still perform the usual functions, like smelting and taming and running around in nothing but mittens and cloaks, or does it just toggle training of exotics?

Changes to the entity raws require a world regen to take effect.  Entity raws are loaded into civilizations when the world is created and don't have any effect after that.  If you want to breed an exotic creature in an already existing fortress, edit the animal raws in that world's save folder and change the [PET_EXOTIC] token to [PET].  That can be done without a world regen.

Changes to the entity raws require a world regen to take effect.

This is true, my bad.

The best option is to copy the relevant RAW files into word (or your favoured substitute) and use find and replace to switch pet_exotic to pet.

Take a look at entity_default though, there's quite a lot you can play with that's quite self explanatory. For one thing it lets you turn your goblin foes into totems and meals.
