There didn't seem to be much to that article. It just spends a few paragraphs assuring the viewer that while DF may be "ugly" (compared to other ASCII games, or what?) it's really fun... but it doesn't go into much detail about anything. Then it just ends by linking someone else's video.

The video itself, on the other hand...

As for booze, there was a barrel.

The dwarves lazing around seemed un-DF like.
I liked "gone" the best.
Though the creature was pretty darn cool too.
Well,

"Gone" just depressed me...

Oh mine's full of red light
and as for gone, it was so dorfy

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'd be rather glad if graphic sets didn't exist.
They are, so to speak, the cancer that is killing DF. Not external display utilities, those are fine, but graphic sets are just full on evil.

So we got monsters above, monsters below, dwarves in the middle and a party in the dining hall. Sounds good to me.
If all else fails, remember one thing:  kittens are delicious, nutritious little goblin-baiters, cavern explorers, and ambush-finders.

I'd wager that attitude is more cancerous to DF than tile sets ever could be.

See, some people just can't stand ASCII and bear with the silliness that comes with having a tileset/graphics pack like berries for gender symbols. However, if you're going the elitist approach here you'll have to take into consideration not everyone has your taste. There's nothing wrong with graphics sets or tilesets.

Back on topic, Matul is great, and so is the video!

Gee, sorry for not being hardcore or imaginative enough and not want to deal with ASCII.

On topic, whoa. Just whoa. And the "missing sign" for the cat alone is several levels of awesome.

Hey Im hardcore and imaginative enough to deal with the ascii, and I love the work the people who make tilesets put into them and suport them in their efforts. three cheers for the hard work of tile artists!

also story rocks! aperintly everything not a dwarf, livestock, or pet is an elf?
