I think I'll pass on the lard. Peanut butter does about the same job while not being horrifically untasty.

Lard can be very tasty if you know how to use it.

Lard is sometimes the secret ingrediant in apple pie.

Ghee is clarified butter, and even worse for you.  There's a disturbingly high heart disease rate in India.

As disturbingly high as in America? This is something I didn't know.

Yes, absolutely.

There's more heart disease among thin people, due to narrower veins and so on.

Just to play devil's advocate, could this have more to do with malnourished people than "narrower veins"? It stands to reason that if there are significant hunger problems in parts of India (or anywhere else), then those people will be both thin and sickly, skewing the statistics.

I can't find the article.  Here's a different one, similar topic: Genetic heart disease

Something fairly related, I recommend that everyone who has any form of calorie requirements (that means everyone) get this book: Joy of Cooking

It's a cook book, basically, but the damned best one available in the US (possibly in the world). Especially for someone who's never, ever cooked anything before, or has tried without success. Although it's about the thickness of a Bible and horizontal size of a textbook, it's organized well enough and almost anything and everything you could ever want to know about cooking and baking is in that book.

I love that book! My mom has a copy, and using it I can actually make things that are edible.

Apparently, there's a crazy low rate of bowel cancer though, due to turmeric intake or something.

I recommend reading the reference pages, the gray sections near the beginning and end of the book. They provide a wonderful overview on almost everything, all written in A-Z format.

lets see, fattening foods without fill... soda pop? i'm sure certain drinks will do the job.

not to be offtopic, but it has to do with food and isnt important enough to make it's own thread.
is it wierd to eat the peanut shells on peanuts? becuase instead os taking the shell off, i usually stick the whole thing in my mouth and eat it.

It's not that weird. At least to me. I eat the shells from pistachios all the time.
