remorse from mutilating people?
« on: December 22, 2010, 10:54:02 am »

does anyone else find that killing people in horrible ways can become almost unbearable?

after spending a few months of browsing liveleak, /b/ and such with more frequency i'm starting to become quite sensitive to ripping peoples faces off with my teeth and meticulously breaking evey bone in a victim's body.

I've gone from being rather desensitised to having horrid flashbacks of some mad ukranian/mexican/brazilian/american performing horrible acts everytime i decide to maim a child. it's effecting my ability to enjoy the game.

Just don't kill the inoccent! You MAIM CHILDREN when play adventure mode? why? I mean its just a game but when I play I can never bring myself to even touch any of the non-soldiers (except for kobolds I guess but they started that one). If you feel bad about breaking every bone in someones body go find a more deserving target... like a blood soaked night creature or a elf wearing a *<<+human hair crown+>>* decorated with hanging rings dwarf leather and with an image of a gnome making a pleading gesture in gnome tooth.

Not really.
I find videos like 3 guys 1 hammer, gore gifs, etc. gross, but that does not make me feel sorry for what I do in adventure mode anyway.
Though, in real life I wouldn't even hit a fly(unless it threatened my life, that is..)

It just seems abit vulgar after watching an innocent get murdered. maybe i'm being too sensitive.

I do sometimes, but rarely considering it's a game and they have no conscience, just programming telling them to attack me if the game tells my adventurer to spontaneously stab someone that's standing in my way.

The answer is obvious,  you have to desnsitize yourself to all these morals obligations you have.

Perhaps a christmas eve marathon of gore to get pumped for Santa?

This question will become increasingly important towards version one. I could swear NPCs passing the Turing test was somewhere in the power goals or bloats. At the very least, I think the possibilities for social interaction will get an overhaul similar in complexity to that of the bodily interactions.

Imagine the remorse you will get from ripping the face of a child after you had a nice little procedurally generated yet unique and heartwarming little chat. For me the "You look like a mighty warrior indeed" "I'm five" is good enough so that all childs (and their relatives) are safe from gory bodily interactions with my adventurers.

I've spent a good while trying to find a child to mutilate just to prove a point, alas, so far I've been given the incorrect weapon, killed by boogie men, and killed by the same child that I was going to mutilate after killing the adults after I tried to kill everyone but somehow ended up fighting super-pesants that I either missed or they parried every attack, I eventually dodge off a small cliff and got my head cut open by the child.

I don't get it, why would you find remorse in gouging out the eyes of a human baby then strangling it with a loincloth, then using it to kill blind children?
