Feeling bored
« on: December 22, 2010, 08:02:15 am »

So... I was feeling like making a map with lots of buildings and things. But I don't have enough creativity to think up all the things. So... Post what you would want me to build. It can be anything from a waterfall or a small maze to a spaceship or a giant magma pooping dwarf. I will make a list of the things requested and post statuses and stuff. I'm likely to not add your idea to the list if it's very hard or boring to make. It can be time consuming like that magma pooping dwarf idea or small like the waterfall idea but not hard like a giant cotton candy statue or a box filled with clowns or boring like a 25x25x25 stone box. Oh and the more details about the structure you provide the better. I'm looking forward to your ideas and encouragement. =D

Make the cat statue sitting up, with the entrance to the fort between her front legs.

I actually hate turning down ideas but the problems with all the cats and kittens make it too hard for my dwarves or my FPS. I'm either gonna have to kill the pet cats that manage to quickly get an owner making the dwarves who had those cats sad and maybe starting a tantrum spiral after which it's possibly all over or letting the lucky cats who get an owner live causing my FPS to drop until it reaches critically low at what point it's also over. Sorry! :(

What about this?

Step 1. find a embark site that's mostly mountain (with a bit of forest or swamp for wood.)
Step 2. Embark.
Step 3. Carve a city out of the living rock.
Step 4. use any loose leftover stone to expand upwards. This would require a world with a bunch of sky z-levels though.

That's not boredom, that's laziness. The only cure is to actually get out there and DO something.

Well... Oh how I feel this is making me look like an ******* to the idea suggesters by just throwing away their ideas. The idea is good but I need details like what buildings, how are they built, where are they placed. :/

? I explained why I can't do it. And yes. That what you quoted there is not boredom. That's a problem. For this fort I'm not trying to have fun the dwarven way but my own way. My best dwarves going tantruming and bringing others with them is not fun by my way. Neither is having 10FPS. I have a rather slow computer so my FPS drops quicker than for most.

Well, I wouldn't be able to say without looking at the embark site. I'm not some kind of techno-telepath-thingy-person.

There are two lakes near the center of the map. I would drain the southern lake into a large 11x11 farming area under and just to the left of it. It would overflow the space, but the 11x11 space can be neatly divided into four 5x5 plots with a seed barrel in the middle, which is all that a fort really needs. So a floodgate would be useful to control flooding.

The second lake would become a fishing lake, and I'de build a wall around it with some extra room for a fishery, storage for empty barrels and barrels of fish, and a little fisherman's hut. If the fishing's good, might build a fish-cleaner's hut and a second fisherman's hut.

Also inside the walls a path into the fort proper, and maybe space for outdoor crops and a refuse pile. If outdoor farming is gonna be a thing, then space for several farmer's huts, farmer's workshop, still, butcher's shop and a mill. Future expansion could include an outdoor garden where animals can congregate, near the farmer's workshops for easy milking and slaughter.

The main gate would face the river, and have a little bridge crossing it. And on top of the walls on the inside there would be a catwalk for archers should the need arise.

Spoiler: surface (click to show/hide)

I'm sorry, I can't see it. The link comes up blank. Could you email the save to me? Or at least the image you exported?

Create artificial lake covering the whole area using that brook. And build white tower in the middle.

Though I really like dwarf pooping magma idea.

Been busy with Christmas and school break and stuff so I haven't had time to be on here.
AngleWyrm, Great idea. Going into the to do list. Though I'm gonna cut the bridge idea since it's a brook. (Possible to understand from the white spots and the lighter blue color.)
Di, What area should the lake cover? The surface? Underground? Where the hell would my dwarves live? The white tower idea will be added as soon as someone (Anyone really.) specifies how big and what shaped.

As it's Christmas, make huge Christmas tree from olivine and garnierite, and decorate it by dropping goblins from above. Also put gift boxes cages under it, that open themselves and release fun to those who come near.

A big Christmas tree from any green stone I find. (How about normal wood for the trunk?) Drop caged invaders on the tree from above. (Dead invaders too? They die on impact anyways.) And if anything that weighs 70000 or more comes near the tree they are killed. How does that sound? =D
