Companion kills
« on: December 22, 2010, 04:01:01 am »

So I've got a reasonable pack of soldiers with me, I picked up maybe 10 or 12 early on and they appear to be skilling up nicely and are becoming fairly badass.

This leads to some unfortunate kill stealing, I recently met a hydra, the toughest foe i've faced and my hammerman nicked the killing blow.   (I went head hunting and took 6 with 6 swings, my seventh only tore muscle and he bruised its claw the same round leading to bleed out.)

The thing is that I cant seem to find any tracking of their kills.  I dont get it as a notable kill unless I deal the final blow, but they dont seem to have a 'k'ills page.
Do they get the notable kill in legends?

Do many people have this problem?  Is it something I wont notice once I get suitably awesome, or should I consider letting some go?  Dont want them stealing the dragon I got assigned next but might want the help :p

Check their inventory through look ('l') and then look at their primary weapon. It'll list the kills (both notable and other) made with that particular item as well as their total kills at the bottom. If they launched its brain through its skull by punching or kicking it in the head, it won't show up though.

It becomes particularly annoying when the creature in question is one that was a really tough fight. On the other hand, killing a few high profile creatures like that really jacks up their stats in short order. I've had aventurers burdened by lugging around the corpse of the hydra we just killed get ambushed and had the entire ambush wiped out by his axelord sidekick before the adventurer can walk ten steps and that was with the axelord crawling around on his hands because of the crippled nerves in his foot

So, kill stealing is a nuisance against a major target (poor Goden never did get a kill against a Minotaur before I retired him), but immensely helpful against groups of opponents.

Perhaps a Party Setting that leaves the assured killing blow to the leader?

As in if the creature is left helpless/unable or unconscious then all companions disengage.

Im gonna keep these guys with for now I think

Yes they do. They'll even be noted as being respected for heroic acts by their civilizations just for participating, which is totally awesome even if it has no ingame effect. One of my companions never had a kill, and got both of her arms chopped off, but she's still a hero. In my eyes, especially.

Yeah, in the future you probably shouldn't strike the earth quite so hard

My last adventurer had one dragon kill (and 20 other kills) and the rest of the party had: 2 dragons, a hydra, a Titan, countless goblins, wolves and trolls. In the end 10 or so of them survived. Do you know if i can find them? I like collecting items with kills. Oh and funny thing one dragon was killed with a shield :)

I've developed a habit of looting my fallen companions and selling off their inferior gear.  Stopped by a merchant last night and bought back all the weapons with kills, I move much slower now but im laden with awesomeness :)

In related news the damn hammerman nicked the dragon kill too.  I swear my adventurers are mainly here to train the rest of my civ up, its a shame we cant roll more history after having played as an adventurer for a bit, be fun to see how they hold up

I've had my moments. Felt like some Oblivion NPC(those guards are psychotic), I really wanted to ask "WHY.WON'T.YOU.DIEE!!" to a few foes. But I'm nowhere as brutal as one of the swordsmen I had with me once. He bit a night creature when we had it on the ground curbstomping it, and proceeded to RIP ITS HEAD OFF WITH HIS TEETH. He later ran up to another night creature we had pinned and just ripped its trunk off!. I could imagine the awkward expressions of shock on my party's face every time the did this.
Worst I did was throw break somebody's hip with his pals hand, then jam his body into another one of his friends with a good toss.
