So I stumbled across a strange change in EAs take on their Sims Franchise. While I have pretty much avoided it prior to this and left that up to my wife, http://www.ea.com/the-sims-medieval this new one has piqued my interest.

So I come here to my DF other game forum comrades and ask, do you think this is just Sims 3 dressed up in Medieval clothes? The feature list seems pretty interesting despite the Sims 3 engine and the similarities. Though everything from EA I treat like a possible strain of the black death ever since Spore.

Seems more like a cash-grab to me. I'm willing to bet it'll be fairly mediocre fare that does well financially because of the name attached to it.

I've heard abooot this, though I am curious to see what it's like I probably won't be following it.

I am curious if everyone is going to be a noble or if your sims have to be peasants first or something.

Oh, you poor naive fools. You're only speculating when the terrible truth has already been revealed.

You play Sims with pre-defined roles. PRE-DEFINED ROLES! One is a king, another a doctor, yet another a knight! You can customize what they look like, but ultimately you're still playing that one character!! *gasp* It looks pretty bad to me, though the premise is nice I assume EA is poised to Spore-ify that quickly enough.

I can't help but feel they are trying to offer us a juicy steak, and then they open the freezer and take it out of a box into the microwave.

Really, even The Sims franchise itself is veering away (somewhat) from its original goals. It feels less and less like a simulation each time.

Aye, and if it was darker and aimed for more mature audiences.

Why isn't there a game where you'd build, grow and play the hero outside his mighty quest to save the world? Maybe DF in 20 years.

The Guild (at least The Guild 2) is really annoying with it's massive load of bugs that almost make Daggerfall look stable and also little things like the fact that you can only have three active family members at once and if you disable one you can never control them again.

I think it is going to be fun, going to buy it at launch, but I like The Sims in general

It looks to be good, I'd say.  I don't think you choose to play as only a single character, each one has defined rolls, yes, but from what I heard of an interview apparently you pretty much control your entire kingdom, also there are win conditions, which seems odd for a sims game, it seems quite an interesting turn from the regular sandbox sims formula.
