Reproducible error (120.23b)
« on: December 12, 2006, 05:48:00 am »

I have a room with lots of captive goblins, etc. and a lever outside (fort was started in 23a). I attached said lever to a cage containing a goblin thief in the previous version, and now whenever it's pulled the hard drive runs and then the game crashes to desktop.

I also have a crashy lever attached to a cage (Pull it and the game crashes). However, it has previously been linked to several other cages (oddly, the mechanisms aren't freed when those cages were emptied and removed).

I figured perhaps it crashed because it was trying to open the other cages (which are probably all back in cage traps), except that didn't cause a crash in the last version (In that version, I tried flipping it when all the cages it was linked to were back in traps, and there were no crashes).

I've prepared a saved game in which the lever is pulled, causing a crash, about 5 seconds after you load the game. I don't see an upload button on these forums, though.

Yeah, the forum doesn't have anything fancy, so

toadyone@bay12games.com or somewhere downloadable
region#.sav + region# folder in some kind of zip/rar

I've fixed a problem related to pulling flood gate levers, but it's likely not related to this.  I'll create a report and try to get it sorted out soon.  The save would make that easier.

Hmm, I seem to have run afoul of the floodgate lever gremlin (or a close relative) as well.

Prior to transferring the fortress to 23b, I had this setup for flooding the chasm with lava (first time I ever reached this point too):

_______
xxxxxx_
xxxxxxOxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
l______________________f magma
xxxxxxxxxxx...xxxxxxxxxxxx
         xDDDx
 xxxxxxxxx...xxxx
 xLo  F
 x

_ - channel
x - rock face
O - open rock floodgate (left it open before saving in 23a)
f - closed rock floodgate
l - closed rock floodgate
L - Lever to l
o - Lever to O
F - lever to F

The O floodgate works fine. So does the l floodgate, and the pair which service my farms (I just checked). But the magma floodgate crashes. Is it because I used rock (I didn't know that you needed steel floodgates to withstand magma-I thought that was just for bridges, and I've used rock floodgates in the past without any negative consequences)?

Also, like SL said, cages w/ connected mechanisms don't give them up when you 'Destroy Building' them now.

I can't draw worth spit. Sorry.

I sent the email with the attached save a couple hours ago, by the way.

Edit: In other news, opening my magma floodgates crashes DF too. I tried putting the save in the old version so I could continue without the crashiness, but it didn't work - I can't even load it. It just has 'create new world' as the only menu option besides 'quit'.  :(

I did the exact same thing. Good thing I backed my game up before moving to 23b.
