HELP!

 Hey guys, I just got Dwarf Fortress and was so excited! But then, during character creation, when I was depositing the skill points, I tried the + and - buttons. But, - set the skill to 1, and + didn't do anything!
 THEN I found out that it had to be the NUMBER PAD + and -

I DON'T HAVE A NUMBER PAD, HELP!!!!!

Uhh you are using a notebook/laptop right? Me too. Try shift+the key that is <- to the Backspace. Or just change the key bindings in the "esc" menu. Good luck with DF  :D

Ah also note that number pad is Fn+blue num lock(may not be blue on your keyboard) or fn+blue number.

yeah your best bet here is probably a remap.  Even though i use a desktop with a seperate number pad I remapped the +/- menu scrolling just because it seems to not work on me occasionally and for no discernable reason
