Look around for water. Say your sunburn really hurts, you just need a quick dip first. Then once you're all wet, quickly approach fire and get the logs carefully in place, and back off. If necessary go for another dip in the water after.

If no water, then get up close to the fire to do the logs carefully anyway.

You place the logs in the sand and retreat to the water line, explaining to Richard and Emily as you passed that you need to cool your sunburn. Again with the strange looks! Why?

You flounder in the water for a while and get covered head to toe.  Once you feel confident the fire can't hurt you, you turn back toward the party.
As you slosh your way back to shore, you are suddenly hit from behind by a large wave! (roll of 6)
You are knocked over, but manage to keep above the waves and make it to the beach.
Embarrassed, you get up and grab the logs again. You can feel the heat from the bonfire eroding away at your liquid shielding, it won't last more than one trip. You ignore your racing heartbeat and the screaming in your mind to run, but your hands are obviously shaking.
Despite this, you shore up the weakening corner with the two logs. Just in time, too, as the old log was just a stick at this point.
Your hands stay burn free, but your liquid shield is destroyed, and the heat of the fire is aggravating your sunburn, so you back off.

You return to the table and grab a bottle of water, downing it in two gulps. You feel the sudden urge to ask for a beer, but doubt that that will help anything. Your headache has abated some, and thinking is easier.
Looking around, you notice that the sun is very low over the water. Richard is at the grill again, and the people near the fire have started dancing. You don't hear any music, though, so you wonder what they are dancing to. Emily is among them, dancing with some other girl, the pretty blond from earlier, in fact. Robert is still reading by the logs, but you try not to look at him too long, lest you attract his overly energized attention.

You can't leave until midnight, and you aren't sure how to help further. What to do, What to do....

Tell Richard we left something in our car, then go to the parking lot to search for our car.

Join the dancers, we used to be one of the greatest in the WOOOORLD! If we suck horribly we can pass it off as drunkedness later on.

You watch the dancers intently, trying to figure out a pattern of step. You become reasonably sure you've gotten the routine down, but then they all join hands and dance in a ring around the fire. You start to hear them chanting on their own, but you can't quite hear what the words are until Richard starts saying it quietly to himself.
We approach the Sacred Grove
With hearts and minds and flesh and bone
Join us now in ways of old
We have come home.

They suddenly stop and stand before the fire.
They all raise their arms in unison, and Richard jogs to the other side of the fire, up onto a large rock you hadn't noticed before.
You decide that you have seen quite enough, and try to sneak off. (roll of 7)
Richard doesn't notice you, but many in the group do. You hope that they are required to stay there, otherwise you might be chased! (roll of 9)
Nope! One of them calls out at you to stop! Do you?

random.org really doesn't like you right now. Not a single double-digit number.

You look towards the box of logs, but Robert isn't there! He must have taken your distraction as a cue to escape by himself!
Not wanting to find out more about the strange rituals of this group, you sprint as fast as you can toward the shallow cliff separating the beach and the parking lot.

You bolt through the lot and only now realize that you have no shoes. Your feet will be bloody at the end of this, but you don't care right this second.
You whip out the key in your pocket and try it on the first car you run into. (roll of 17)
The key works! You jump into the driver's seat and start the engine. You back out of the spot and make your way toward the street! To Freedom!
You look over your shoulder to sneer at your pursuers...
and they aren't there. They did not chase you, they continued with their ritual.
You feel like kind of a jerk now.

Oh well, you relax in your seat and take stock of yourself.
You have a terrible, numbing headache. You have a blue sedan with comfortable seats. Your feet hurt like hell, but they aren't bleeding too badly. You are NOT HUNGRY. You feel like taking a nap. You are wearing aged looking cargo shorts and a white tee shirt. You still have the reflective piece of glass.

Look into one of the car's mirrors for a better view of our forgotten face.

Look through the glove compartment for clues about yourself.

You move the rear view mirror into a position where you can see your face, but the sun catches the mirror and temporarily blinds you. You fiddle with it a little more, and look at yourself. You apparently haven't shaved in about a week. Your nose looks like it's been broken before, but seems too healed to have been broken anytime recently. Your eyes are a shockingly bright blueish color, in stark contrast to your rather drab face. Your hair is brown and somewhat long.

Having nothing else to do, you sift through the various wares in the glove box. You find the car's registration, which reminds you that you don't have your license on you. You also find an old wallet containing nothing but a bill worth five "marks," whatever those are. You check under the seats as well, and find a hammer-like thing that has "window escape" engraved into the handle. You think about testing it out, but if it's any good you'll regret it. Beyond that, there is nothing but a few crumbs and a clean paper napkin.

You check the name on the registration: "Johnathan Leeds"
It isn't impossible that it is your real name, but you don't have the means to confirm it.

It's quite possible that we are not Johnathan Leeds and do not in fact own this vehicle. I was hoping the name would trigger some memory, but it seems not. Oh, well. There should be an address on the document. We just need to figure out how to get from where we are now to there.

We don't have keys, so we probably live in the dorms of the college place. Let's ask someone who isn't crazy how to get there. Robert perhaps?

You start up the engine and drive toward the street.
"Huh, this reminds me of high school." you muse to no one in particular. "When I got my first car. I think it was a sedan like this one. Heh, I remember which classes I took, and in which order, but I can't remember my own name."
You shake your head and smile. You turn on the radio, and the first song you hear is by some over-hyped singer who seems addicted to autotuning. You instinctively jerk the dial to another station and hear classical music. You remember this one from somewhere... It's on the tip of your tongue...
