Teach yourself how to pick locks while wondering what to do next.

"Eh, why not?" You say to yourself. You pick up the box of locks and the lock picks and get to work. You spend the next hour and a half learning about the various tools, practicing on the locks, and developing your technique. After you finish, you feel confident enough to pick any lock not specifically designed to be immune. You practice on your door lock. tink tink click! Wow, that is disturbingly easy. Well, you don't need a house key anymore! You wait until everyone in the halls is gone, then practice on your neighbor's door. You silently unlock his door and peek in. It's fairly boring. Just another slightly messy dorm room, with nothing more interesting than what you could find in your own. You leave and close his door behind you. There are still no people in the halls.

Wonder what kind of person we were to own a trenchcoat AND want the ability to pick locks.
Exit the building and go to the office and request a schedule for your classes.

You ponder momentarily about how legal it is to own lockpicks, but you aren't worried. So long as you don't do anything that qualifies as a crime, you don't have to worry about the cops knocking down your door. This reminds you that you need to have a copy of your driver's license sent from the DMV.
You decide to go out and find everybody, but you take off your coat first. It's still the middle of summer after all, and you don't quite like the idea of a heat stroke.

You walk down the completely deserted hall, down the silent staircase, and out through the door into the sunlight. No one. There is not a single person outside. It's not that hot, so it's not the temperature driving everyone inside. It's a little disquieting that you can't hear any cars either.
"Hello?" you call out. "Is there anyone here?"
Nothing but the wind.
This is very strange. There isn't a single soul no matter where you look. The classrooms are empty, the library is vacant, the parking lot, while full of cars, is devoid of all human life. Looking out into the street, you confirm your suspicions. No cars for as far as the eye can see. You doubt that the apocalypse in nigh, but this is still quite alarming.

You must be dreaming. There is no way the world would just empty itself randomly like this. You pinch yourself a few times, but you don't wake up. Of course... You'd expect the pinching. You sprint toward the plaza, the wind rushing by your ears you leap into the air and dive straight into the fountain. You smash into the bottom and nearly break your jaw. No, you are definitely not dreaming. The pain of this admittedly quite idiotic stunt courses through your entire head and down your spine. Looking into the water, you notice a few drops of crimson. Checking your chin, you notice that you are bleeding a little. Ugh, another injury. Just what you need.

Thinking a little clearer, you get the idea that there is some sort of party or sports event going on. It's unlikely that this is the case, because no sports event has such massive popularity to clear out an entire city, and just one party has the same problem. Maybe a combination? You slosh out of the fountain and head back to your dorm.
Once there,  you change into a pair of jeans, a solid brown shirt, and sneakers. After that is done, you go out into the hallway and just listen. You stand in the hall for ten minutes listening for the slightest hint of music, or talking. None, there are no parties going on in your dorm.
You leave and go out to the nearest fraternity house. Standing outside and listening reveals nothing, and the front door is locked, so you can't go in and ask.
You go to the office, but it's locked as well, and you can't see anyone through the glass anyway. You decide to go see the nurse. If there is anyone left, Nurse Ming will be there. She was required to be there during the day, no matter what.

You arrive at her office and see that the door is open. Finally! You go inside, and there she is, sitting at her desk as usual.
"How can I help you?" She asks, smiling.
You show her your chin, and ask for a bandage.
"Oh, you poor thing!" she cried. "Hold still, I need to disinfect it first!"
"Okay," you say quietly. Something about her eyes is really hypnotic, and you hold completely still as she applies the disinfectant.
"How did you get this?" she asks.
"I... uh... fell..." You feel your willpower being sapped.
"Fell? Fell where?"
"The.. fountain..." After applying the bandage, she steps back, and you feel you mind returning. You suddenly feel that it's dangerous to be around her for too long.
"How did you fall in the fountain?" She give you an exaggeratedly questioning look.
"I'm not sure," you lie. "I really must be going, though."
"No! You must rest! You look exhausted!" She grabs you by your forearm.
You feel an urgent need to escape, but it's hard to resist... you feel so tired all of a sudden.

You gently remove her hand from your arm and walk towards the door. Your eyelids are lead weights, demanding to be closed. Every movement of your body requires extreme effort. Your vision swims a little. You must escape.
You lurch to the door of the office, and can hear some noise behind you. It's probably her protesting, but you can't understand a word of it.

The moment you pass the threshold, all of your energy surges into your body. You fell like you can rum a mile! a marathon! AROUND THE WORLD!!! HA HA HA HA HA!
A moment later you crash back down to normal energy levels. Ugh.
Thinking clearly once more, you remember that you didn't ask her where everybody disappeared to. On the other hand, going back in seems like a bad idea.

Grab the lockpick gear from the dorm, then get to the safety of the liquor store.
