Quick question for everyone
« on: December 20, 2010, 10:56:31 pm »

Hello all, i just had a quick question. Ive been making a lot of skull totems, but i cant seem to figure out how to select them to be carried to the trader. What category is it under in the Trade Depot menu? Finished Goods?

Yes, it makes up its own category inside of Finished Goods.

I solved this problem by simply building a LOT of bins.  And then assigning a "finished goods" stockpile around the trade depot.

The totems get thrown in with all the other junk that counts as "finished good" and you can then just haul the bins to the trade depot and sell them with everything else.

It was much easier that way.

Elves aren't environmentalists, they're the smartest businessmen ever created in Dwarf Fortress.  Think about it, the only plants they want you to use are the ones they supply.  They even go so far as to attack you for producing too much lumber of your own.  They're not hippies, they're violent businessmen!

You can press the "f" filter on string key, then type TOTEM.

That'll only work if they aren't in bins (which isn't going to happen unless your fortress is horribly mismanaged) - the usual method is to filter on the term "finished goods" and then work from there.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
