Dirty dwarfs
« on: December 20, 2010, 10:55:06 am »

How do i get my dwarfs clean the best way?. I tried the suggested method of making a channel filled with 3/7 water. But it always results in a pool of blood in the channel through which the dwarfs walk again just building up a blood puddle consisting of every goblin dwarfs and creatures blood who ever died, which they then get on their shoes  :-\

I think if you build a waterfall the mist from it will clean dwarves as they walk by, dropping a puddle of blood on the floor.

It should, provided you don't flood your fortress building it.

An easier method than the mist generator is simply to channel out a 3x3 area at the entrance to your fort and fill it to 3/7 with water. This will clean off dwarves as they scurry hither and thither.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

yea but it'll leave the blood in the water and the dwarfs will get dirty again right away.

Which is why you use dfhack to clean the blood up.

So there's no hack free way of cleaning stuff? Kinda makes me feel sorry for my soldiers already as there's a fb with poisonous vapors in the first two caves.

I thought substances in water don't spread to your dwarves anymore.

They shouldn't.
And if you build your cleaning trench underground they will clean all the washed-off muck from out of it.

You're supposed to be able to drain things off. The last time I tried it, I dumped the water into an aquifier, but it should be possible to do something else such as dumping it into the river or something.

I simply channeled out my entrance to my dining hall and designated it a pond till it was full 2/7. Seems to have cleaned everyone's shoes and all the animals of contaminants. The Dwarfs also seem to clean the pool out itself occasionally. I gained ~30fps from it  :o

my cleaning trench seems to self clean... i put a 1x4 channel 2/7 deep by my front door... mainly to clean the jam covered soldiers. big fps gain.
