So, uh, I accidently a tiger
« on: December 20, 2010, 09:31:23 am »

My cage traps I set up to catch elephants that come through every once in a while caught a tiger. The only one in the map right now. How usefull are they? I'm also only on my 1st year. I also removed the _Exotic from [Pet_Exotic].

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Well, if nothing else the tiger will be a very useful addition to your zoo and no doubt create many a happy thought. If they are trainable for war, and I'm too lazy to check your modded RAW, I'd wait until they start breeding and get yourself an army of war tigers. I'm not sure how effective they would be - better than wardogs, probably.

Hopefully. I also just somehow caught a giant cave swallow. This embark rocks.

EDIT : War tigers. 'Nough said.

Awesome.
Two questions:
1.)
could you post the save file or something like that?

2.) If you did, how would we play it? (I've been gone a while and never tried to play someone else's game.)

Do you really want to play someone else's game just because he caught a tiger?

It starts with tigers, and progresses to adamantine space elevators. Never underestimate the green-ness of the grass when viewed across a fence.

It's a fairly normal embark, part mountian biome, part tropical forest. Mostly mountain. Also, I've modded the game to make some animals tameable without a dungeon master. Anyway, I'll upload.

When embarking on to a spot, go to the ride hand side of your "careful embark" items screen.  You can pick dogs, cats, etc. etc...  Depending on your home civ, you can have all sorts of animals.  I embarked with four elephants.

I bought a tame tiger from elves once, managed to kill a Troglodyte but it got infected in one of its toes. They don't seem to be a helluva lot better than war dogs...

Your aware that farming in a cavern is potentially dangerous right?
I mean you didn't even build a wall :S

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Russian Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

I built several walls where the trees weren't blocking. And I was mining out so I wasn't connected to the second cavern.

EDIT : Is it normal for all my non-pet war animals to follow my animal trainer? Cause the war tiger, 4 war dogs, and 8 puppies (Most likely following the war dogs) are following him as he goes out to set up cage traps in my giant eagle capturing device. Apparently, although he goes outside a lot (mechanic too), he's the most safe dwarf in the fortress. Speaking of which, are puppies good giant eagle bait?

Yeah, war animals will follow their trainer around unless they're assigned to a squad, chained or caged.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! I have one seen adamintine pillar on my map so far, and it's in the middle of the magma sea. Meaning out of several dozen potential adamintine on one floor, I can get four pieces.
