Bah! The RNG requires blood sacrifice! Why do you think He sends us goblins and elves? It is so that we may paint the embark in blood! *sings chants from the Holy Book of Raws*

Or couldn't you just carry the vampires mutilated corpse, and then lick it a bit, when you were ready?

If you were a mechanic, would you want another spanner? No. You'd want goat-sacrifice.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Wow, fast replies!

I see. That was a bit disappointing, but the fact that things will knock on my door is a comfort  :) Guess I gotta get prepared.
And yeah, I'm using largest area on a high end computer, runs fine atm.

Of course they are. Especially sweet, tender, kitten... Dwarfs who have been selected as 'master' by a cat you slaughter won't be pleased with that, though.

Or as Urist McSomewhatdisturbing might say; "I've eaten lots of pussy and they always tasted good."

Ah, sounds sweet. I'll have to learn to handle the ropes anyhow.

I'm liking this community already.

I know the thread has already been thoroughly jacked but wanted to point out that the depth of the game is it's strength, which you're already finding out thanks to too many (ie more than 1) cats.

Yes, you're limited to your embark area but as your fortress grows you'll find many many disturbing/hilarious/confounding things. Plus, you can take 'depth' literally and start digging down. That ought to give you plenty of Fun.

Has anyone ever had a flood of dogs? I thought at my most recent start that it would be wise to take two bitches and a .. whatever you call a male dog with me. Both bitches have littered and I now have SIX(!) puppies and three adult dogs and I'm in my second year, in the start of Autumn.

I've got a dogsplosion.  I"m literally sitting on about 50 puppies right now.  And since I"m keeping my dogs around to turn into war dogs (they are especially useful at sieges and for deterring the odd animal and thief).

Cats on the other hand...  I tend to slaughter the kittens just for their skulls.  I need bone bolts after all.  Also, I need to make crafts for trade somehow!

Elves aren't environmentalists, they're the smartest businessmen ever created in Dwarf Fortress.  Think about it, the only plants they want you to use are the ones they supply.  They even go so far as to attack you for producing too much lumber of your own.  They're not hippies, they're violent businessmen!

Dogsplosions can happen, but they are not half as bad as catsplosions because
1) dogs don't breed as fast (or do they?).
2) dogs are more useful, can be trained into war or hunting dogs.
3) dogs don't adopt dwarves, meaning they can be slaughtered if necessary.

As dwarves slowly lose their stats over time it's natural for them to get fatter as they age because there's no activities to train healing rate.
so dwarves that die of old age in DF dont get shriveled and weak, but huge round masses of meat and fat that explode spectacularly upon their final birthday?
