Theres no usable minerals near us, except the mines. Those mines are pretty much everything we have left thats usable, all the other mines were based from now utterly destroyed, semi-distant villages created just for the minerals

Alright, how about we have them start on a tunnel over there, we can use it when we need to. Make sure to tell them not to break through.

SRSLY nothing.
they've used everything easily reachable, and the sensors picked up nothing deeper down except in the mine area and various other distant locations. These were top-quality scanners they'd traded for.

They're likely hopelessly lost by now, the villages weren't at all defendable. (No one expected anything to attack except the occasional easily shot raider, so they felt it would be wasting materials building walls around all of the towns.)
This was a peaceful planet, remember.

Just start a way to the normal mines, but tell them not to break through until we are ready.

The minecart tunnel is still intact, just the mine end was caved-in.

Ah I see. Run the turn like normal, but set a watch on the minecart tunnel, just in case.

On a random note: If you have any 20-sided dice, you might want to use them. I understand that they're made to average a little higher than 10: around 11, to be exact.

They do tend to work better for me as well. Of course that may just be my weekly sacrificial goat for the dice gods.
