(I guess I'll kickstart this again.)

You begin to build a small sandrunner coop out of dirt behind your shelter. You then expand your wall and make another gate and roof grate. You then place all the eggs in a independent cell.

Create some sort of mining implement.

You try to make a mining implement with obsidian, but it is not hard enough to crack normal stone. You try your shovel, and it works for the Obsidian, but doesn't work for the hard black stone that seems to encircle it.

In Minecraft, a wooden pick is enough to harvest stone.
Obsidian, which was pointlessly hard to harvest until it gained a purpose in the Halloween update(portal to the Nether), takes a DIAMOND pick to harvest.
Slowly.

But I guess this isn't quite Minecraft.

Hmm...

I'd say blast mining, but the propellant in our ammo is probably just not in enough quantity to do any good even if we were willing to waste it.

The sun is setting, and we lack portable light...argh.

Take the mining implement and shovel, go to the mountains and look for exposed coal or even just peat layers.

You search around the fronts of the mountains, not wanting to get caught there when it gets dark. You find a small dark stone which reminds you of coal. You can't find any peat, but coal is probaly better anyway, Right? It is preety hard, but you manage to break off several chunks with the combined use of the Mining implement and the shovel.

Coal is better. Coal is formed when peat is compressed, and has a higher energy density.

(By the way, Thoese eggs will hatch In three In game days. A day there is Basicly two On earth. So basicly, the eggs they lay will either need to not be fertilized or consumed within a week.)

You head home, chucking another few branches on the fire as you do so.

(No, The animals we have caught have been fairly fit. Your best chance for fat is Xenophs, However.)

The moon is begining To rise in the sky.

(My hint is to get some mining tools and maybe move base, fast. Perhaps if you can somehow tame a Housejumper to move your pod to the mountains, Face the entrance to the cliff face, then dig.)
