Urist, the baby is thirsty!
« on: December 19, 2010, 04:58:33 pm »

I have a baby in my fortress that is left walking everywhere through the corridors and meeting halls. He's(she?) mother has bled to death and the father is resting some injury on the hospital. He(she?(again!)) got thirsty and nobody gave water to him. Now he is dying and nobody gives water to him! Help? I dont want more bad thoughts on the father(he already got injuried by a cyclops, lost the spouse and now is going to lost the son?).

Babies need to drink?  :o

Um. There's no way that I know of that any dwarf will give water to a baby. Look at how old he is, will he turn 1 soon? if so you're good

He's as good as dead then. Build an extra coffin in case you need one, you don't want a starving haunt.

Hey, if I wake up the father(prepare for cave in) will him give drink(booze for teh baby!) to the damn baby? Or babies only drink milk from the mother?

I'm pretty sure it needs (abstracted out) mothers milk.

I seem to remember dwarfs taking water to babies (children?) in cages if a baby-snatcher grabbed a kid and then ended up in a cage.  Maybe a cage trap + cave-in to catch the baby, and hope your dwarfs bring it water?

Also, obviously, magma avalanches and tsunamis weren't exactly a contingency covered in the mission briefing.
I can assure you that Ardentdikes is not the first fortress to be flooded with magma. What's unusual is that we actually meant to flood it with magma.

What a good idea  :D
But I dont think the baby will survive to a cave in, maybe drawbridges to make him stunned?

Just put the father in a nice dining room, give him a good meal and he'll forget aaalll about his horrible trauma.

So this inst problem, my dwarves always are with the thought "he/she dined in a legendary room recently" and my legendary cook will make pretty decent meals I think  :D

Anyways I wanted the baby, if anyone comes with a good idea/solution Ill make a masterful engraving for him/her.

Never fear. If you've got more breeding pairs happily married dwarven couples, you'll soon see more babies than you might want. :)

if the father is already in the hospital and the mother is dead, then there is nothing at all to worry about.  Just build a wall around the dad and soon all will be well.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.
