Huh. Maybe I'm wrong with potash. Never made it myself.

But yes, get some traps up at the entrance, bottle necks are GREAT!

Best thing to do about the blindness pandemic, train a lot of siege operators. Because they can't see enemies, they won't run in panic.

make a community fort.  But props on actually understanding stairs before your fifth fort (shutup.  they are confusing) and also on not digging out too much too soon.

This is a useful feature..and this is DF.. so im gonna assume its bugged
That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

A bottleneck, well, imagine a beer bottle. You have outside, inside, and the neck of the bottle.

If you try and squeeze a bit of paper into it, it all gets crammed into the neck. If you can cram an entire seige into one thin corridor you can almost guarantee that they will set off the traps. If it's one tile wide then they're pretty much screwed.

Of course, you may want it to be three wide, that way Dwarves aren't slowed down as much crawling over eachother.

Potash is made at an ashery. Making it requires Ash that is made from burning wood at a wood furnace.

Stairs did take me a while at first, my first fort was on a completely flat level.

"OH GOD WHAT DO I DO WHY WONT YOU WORK DAMN IT NOOOOO"

[d -> j] for down stairs. They lead to the level below. You THEN have to carve the upstairs on the other level.

No. Pig tails can be processed into pig tail thread, and then into pig tail cloth.
Silk comes from spider webs in the game, and in real life it comes from silk worms.
