Fire/Heat related issues

It's really tired so I'll be quick

1. I was adventuring in a Goblin fortress for a while and eventually about six or seven of then simultaneously froze to death out of sight.

2. I was walking around with a pair of burning pants and there were no negative consequences until I walked past a swamp and was instantly killed by steam.

I love how currently the best thing to do when you're on fire is to stay the hell away from water, since the fire is actually less deadly.

I started a fire on a bush next to a pond. I was standing in the pond. As soon as I started the fire on the bush, I was "cracked" all over my body by steam.

I guess in dwarf fort, you have to fight fire with fire? I want to get into a fight with burning clothing on and see if that hurts an enemy.

The exact thing happened to me.  Bushing bush next to pond... walk into steam for one turn, instant death.

I think steam will need to be tuned down a bit.  I mean, steam shuold be deadly, but a fire next to a pond isn't going to produce that much!

Also, I think burning dead bodies by putting them on top of a bush and lighting it creates steam too... deadly!

So I take it that we are not going to want our military Dwarves to carry waterskins while near the magma river?

Actually, the steam thing is horrendously deadly.

I tried it out for myself in a town, and even after I was obliterated by the steam explosion, the steam KEPT GOING!

A child and a horse passed by and were scalded to death by the steam.


So as I see it, there are a couple issues here:
Water should put fire out, not explode into deadly steam.
Fire should burn a lot more when you're standing in it.

Like I said in the release notes (I think?), the flows aren't updated yet, so weird things happen, especially with steam.  Direct contact item <-> bp temperature exchange isn't done either, so you can last quite a while with burning clothes.

The freezing goblins have stupid milling code I think.  The dwarves know better and stay inside, but I don't think I taught adventure mode critters about it (and in the towns, their houses aren't any warmer).

Even if buggy for the moment, this is a truly kick-ass feature.  I will keep using/abusing the set fire thing to see if there are any other idiosyncracies with how it works, and post to this thread for convenience.  Keep an eye on this thread, I guess.
