Mining issue
« on: December 18, 2010, 02:31:48 am »

Hey guys, I'm new here, to the forum and the game, and I've been having a bit of a problem.
I recently created a world, set off with 2 miners (both proficient), a woodcutter, mason, carpenter, grower and brewer.

I started digging a small tunnel into the side of a mountain, but only one of my miners does anything. I've checked the other ones labour settings just to make sure, and the thoughts and preferences.

Everything seems to be fine, but only one of them actually does anything.
Any help?
I'm running the latest version if it matters :P

Define a "small" tunnel.

If the tunnel is only 1 tile wide, the other miner can't dig past the one currently digging.

Well then I suppose it's rather large.
3 wide by something large long.

3-wide is what I consider "average," actually  ;)

Anyway, the most likely problem, given what you've said, is that the second miner doesn't have a pick for whatever reason. Check their inventory or check your stocks screen's weapons category to make sure you have 2 picks. If you can't get the full list in the stocks screen (unlikely, but possible), check your wagon's inventory with the (t) cursor. If you have a second pick, make sure it isn't forbidden, marked for dumping, or marked for melting, and if it is, turn off those statuses, then deactivate and reactivate the second miner's mining labor.

Yep, that's it, I only gave them 1 pick.
I completely forgot, thanks :D

I hate it when this happens. I once embarked with 4 miners so that the initial digging would go faster (planning to retire two of the miners to their secondary jobs once my initial unloading area was carved out), but forgot to bring more than the default 2 picks. *facepalm*
