I think he meant in the sense of showing general dissent about the opposition.

Dissent in what sense?  Wanting to win?  I'm not even into sports other than ping-pong, but this is pretty basic, normal stuff.

As I said; if that's normal I want no part of it.

Shouting and stomping isn't booing.  It's about as offensive as cheering for the home team.
Shouting and stomping is pretty offensive when you're trying to aim for a basket, I've been told.

Booing is fine, if done under ones own accord. The point is that the leader(?) of the pep squad told them to do it. The idea of "pep" squad is to cheer on your own team, not harass the other team, no?

Even if it doesn't bother anyone?

By who?  Have you ever watched a college basketball game?

I don't really "get" pep squads but cheerleaders do that all the time.

It bothers me, so the point is moot.

By some of the players, including members of my high school's team.

I don't really "get" pep squads but cheerleaders do that all the time.
That's another reason I'm not a cheerleader.

I've started booing an opposing team. And that caused my entire team to start booing them. We were the visitors and they were doing this offensively terrible cheer.

Were they cheering for their own team or were they cheering to mess with you? If it was the former, I wouldn't personally have a problem with it. If it was the latter, I guess an eye for an eye gives everyone a sweet-ass eyepatch.

Oh I just enjoy booing people.

The former. I want everyone to know, I boo everyone. I booed my brother at his graduation. I boo my brothers and sisters. I have (More than once.) booed my father and shouted in jest "Boo! You suck!" It's all in good fun.

Think of it this way, If it was a debate and you stood up and booed the opposition while they were speaking you'd be escorted out.
(Unless you're in the house of commons)

I know the power of booing and I know the precise moment of when to boo someone. Also I just barely get that joke.

I suppose it's different when you yell that in jest instead of specifically to distract the opposing team.

Why does it bother you?
People play the game to have fun. At least for me, my idea of fun isn't trying to win a game while everyone yells at you to get you to fail. Asides from that, being in the pep band means I'm representing my school. I don't want them to go home thinking that my town is a horrible place full of horrible people.

I would say that ol' Barbarossa is right in this case. He has every right not to jeer the other team.
