He he he, nobody has done that yet, and it's not part of the grand design.  It could still theoretically happen in the last few days though.

theoretically?

Most Americans are unaware that a Possum is distinct from an Opossum.  I grew up near the American South, where the former word is used almost exclusively to refer to the latter species.  When I was young I was even taught (in school!) that the vowel at the beginning of the word was silent.  Only recently did I discover that there are actually two species with different names.

Same here. :X  And I grew up in radical liberal California in a place people voted to rename "Lake Forest" despite the lack of both.

How can you have a Marsupial section with the Opossum and not have added the Possum?

I think both are possums though only one is an opossum: http://www.ppdl.purdue.edu/ppdl/expert/Possums.html

Argh! Transfering 20$ to paypal but it isn't going to clear till the 3rd so I can't donate until then! I'm going to cast my 2 votes on squids, if toady keeps the animal sponsor drive open till then. Squids have so much potential! Giant and collossil squids from the depths, the pack hunting 6-7feet red devil-humboldt squid, plus smaller fishing sized ones that can be caught for calamari dinners! Color changing flesh in the raws some day maybe?

Another creature that'd be really cool to see in DF would be the Glyptodon. This was a relative of the armadillo that was the size of a Volkswagen Beetle! :o
I'd think that would be a difficult fight for most races. And I can only imagine what dwarves could create from those shells.

Fill with water. Apply magma. DWARVEN HOT TUB PARTY!

Sigged!  ;D

FYI: I think Internet Kraken's Diverse Creatures Mod has several Kraken and an Octopi that can be tamed as pets. But then, it is still in pre-beta stage and having official DF inclusion of a creature is always preferable.

Skeletal jellyfish.  All its body parts start out gray...but it can still sting you.

Completely off-topic: if your receiver hadn't dropped that gorgeous touchdown pass in Pittsburgh, the Ravens would now be on top of the AFC North (#2 overall) and our arch-rivals the Steelers would be #6.  Darn you Buffalo!!

Further, I think the Horseshoe Crab bears a slight resemblance. (This is already on the Animal Sponsorship Drive.) But while it looks like a crustacean, it's actually more closely related to spiders and scorpions. And they've changed little in the last 250 million years.

Pros: easy to catch, makes good fish bait

Cons: very little actual meat*, shell is too brittle to be useful

They're more medically useful but Dwarven medicine isn't even close to being able to utilize them :P

*When you're eating dragonfly brains out of a barrel, a horseshoe crab probably looks like a 3 course meal.
