Ooh, tame cave spiders!

The outpost liason has some.

Will they bite my dorfs? Will they generate webs, if not caged? Will my cats go om nom nom? :O

If it's a greater cave spider it would shoot it's webs at your enemies, but I doubt that they just sell those...

So, even outside of cages, they don't generate webs?

Okay, I bought it, how do I let it out of the cage?

Also, it reads "A dog sized spider"
Will that shoot webs at people!? :D

Dwarves really don't like to have tame vermin running around loose.  You can't let the cave spider out of its cage - if you try, a dwarf will just transfer it to an empty cage or animal trap.  You could make it available for adoption, at which point a dwarf who likes cave spiders might adopt it and then carry it around on his person wherever he goes.  I don't know if it will be able to create webs while being carried that way, but I suspect not.

You could also build a cage, put all the cave spiders in the cage, link a lever to the cage, and then pull the lever.  That will open the cage and dump the cave spiders out.  At that point your dwarves will start desperately catching them and putting them in cages or animal traps, provided your cats don't kill them first.  Cats don't care if vermin are tame, they'll kill stray vermin pets just as readily as wild ones.

By "greater" I believe NotPete means a Giant Cave Spider, which can sometimes be found wandering the caverns.

Cave spiders are vermin, and as such those caught in cages will forever remain in cages. The most you can do is make a zoo from it by building the cage and creating a room about it.

I'm confused. It's not a vermin (it's in a regular cage) but its not a GCS.

Maybe part of a mod?  :-\

Ah, if it's some non-vermin modded creature, then you can let them out to wander around.  I have no idea what the creature in question will do other than that, I'm not familiar with that mod.

The Wanderer's mod doesn't add any animals (or so it says).
Chain one to a wall and march gobbs or somethin' in front of it to see if it shoots webs. Put a fortified wall between 'em, so the target doesn't kill it.
