IT LIIIIIIVES!
« on: December 16, 2010, 11:27:08 pm »

Before I start, I know this would probably be more fitted to be in the modding section, but since only modders and people looking for mods go there, I put it here. That being said, here's the story:

I recently had an idea for a new fort where the military NEVER make contact with the rest of the fortress. I ran into the problem of there burrow getting food. The solution I found was to have a slave-like hauler moving everything to their burrow for them. This eventually ended in a golem creature made of stone. I want to make 5-7 castes of it for various materials (as opposed to a caste for each stone type).

So, choose your favorites and the top few will be used. You can vote 5 times.

EDIT: there done, here's the link: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=73282.0

Had to vote Bauxite, for the fire-resistance.

I voted for...

Conglomerate - Who doesn't like multi-colored golems?
Rocksalt - Would be funny seeing a bunch of horses chasing after it for its salty goodness.
Slate - Yay for brittle golems.
Pitcheblende - I agree... Radioactive golems FTW
Saltpeter - Can you guess why?

I'm really surprised that obsidian isn't dominating the poll.

Puddingstone - Because there's nothing quite like making a golem out of a stone that's named after a dessert.

And the obligatory pitchblende vote.

Everyone knows dwarves pass knowledge through a mass collective, fueled by alcohol. Hence their inability to sustain themselves over long periods with water; they lose the dwarven empathic connection, and become singular and... sane. Which in turn drives them crazy!

I was hasty and voted basalt before I remember the superior magma-ness of obsidian.

I voted for all the purty rare stones though. Olivine, Serpentine, Cobaltite. I should have made one of those Pitchblende.

Granite is radioactive?!

Yep, it contains small amounts of uranium, and seeps radon gas. This can build up to dangerous levels if you have e.g., a cellar, or noble's bedroom, dug into the rock.

I'd make them out of wood, and specifically these woods:

Goblin Cap
Nether Cap
Black Cap
Fungiwood
Tunnel Tube

A few rare golems to be made from Tower Cap.
