And not Torah study? Not living a pious life? Not dedicating yourself to G-d? Circumcision was only brought about for health reasons. And I practice Christianity in the manner of a culturally Jewish person. So please, don't get all offended over saying something against circumcision.

I personally don't understand what the issue is with (male) circumcision.  The only people who get freaked out by it are those who weren't.  Those who are just shrug and wonder what the big deal is.

And it's weird seeing the David Reimer thing resurface here.  I've read that story before, way back in '97 or '98.... before he apparently committed suicide.... and I don't think his name was given back then.  The details of the case are instantly recognizable, though.

I was saying male circumcision was mutilation as a joke. Probably in poor taste but it was nothing to get offended over. But I don't think that circumcision is the holy connection between Jews and G-d.

It's unneeded surgery on a person that incapable of giving or denying consent. Elective surgery shouldn't be performed on people that can't elect it. I mean, what would you think of parents who sent their babies to a surgeon for a nose-job or something like that?

Not to mention that doctors have been documented trying to convince parents to have it preformed on their children, because the procedure nets them extra profit despite the risk and pain to the child. It's barbaric, and shouldn't be allowed in the modern world, at least not on children.

If it is to be performed than it should be performed by highly trained, highly regulated Rabbi's (Or whatever.) who are qualified to perform minor surgery.

Can't emphasize the pain part enough. Here in Bosnia it's tradition among Muslims (they're the only ones who do it) to perform circumcision at 4-5 years of age. I got a friend who was circumcised at 5, and broke his arm falling off a bike at 10, and he says that circumcision was orders of magnitude more painful.

Some might say that it's OK when it's performed on a baby because he won't remember it, but that's like saying that date-rape is OK since roofies cause memory loss.
