I'm of the postmodern school of thought that believes that genders are socially constructed. If you dress up a male baby in pink, nobody will know that it's a male, and people will treat it differently. So I actually do think there are differences between the male and female gender, but it's something we've constructed over our lifetimes, and does not have anything to do with how fast the sperm cells were.
Sperm cells' speed determined gender? Huh, I thought it was alleles. :P

The sex of the child is stored in the sperm cell. I've been led to believe that they move at different speeds.

Y-chromosomes weight slightly less than X ones, so sperm that will produce a man will move slightly faster.

That's... gotta be an infinitesimally small difference though, right?

Although I have heard more male babies are conceived to make up for the fact that boys are more likely to be miscarried.

Wouldn't that result in statistically different ratios at birth, though? I know that the population overall has females as a slight majority (if I'm remembering correctly, at least), but that appears in older demographics, due to higher male mortality rates.

Wow, what everybody here seems to think Feminism is is actually called Separtist Feminism. I can totally dig why you wouldn't like these guys, seeing as how they are as much a hate group as the KKK or the Westboro Church. But Separatist Feminism is different than other forms of Feminism. Remember that. No matter what gender you are, Feminism is on your side.

Great post, but I disagree with this. An oppressed group hating the people who oppress them is quite a bit more justified than the KKK or other similar groups. Misguided maybe, but they're really quite dissimilar.

Yeah...the slight variance in weight over a single chromosome, that doesn't seem like it could possibly make a difference, could it?

You'd be suprised. The figure I heard was that the fastest sperm can reach an egg in 90 miniutes, while the slowest takes 4 hours. It's also worth noting that the sperm seperation process used to try and select gender has a 98% success rate, so I guess it does work.

Well, no, the idea is that the fact you get slightly more male conceptions makes up for that.

Or it could be something along these lines.

That's surely more to do with the formation of the cell.  So if the cell is formed poorly, there's a good chance the genetic information inside was also copied poorly.

I always thought it evened out because the male sperms were faster overall, but the females were able to sprint a bit faster at first.

Then again, my original source for this point is a joke about how to tell how large a man's penis is by the gender dispersal of his children, so that's probably not scientifically accurate.

Well, it's definitely true that male babies are frailer.  You have all those hormones from your mother to worry about in addition to genetic diseases on the bit of chromosone you only have one copy of.

And this segways back to the original topic: If we could somehow remove our mothers' frail woman genes, could we create the Master Race?
