From what I understand about intelligence between men and women

Men have more varience between the intelligence levels while women have less varience

Though altogether they are just as intelligent.

I quoted because I couldn't find a relevant clip, but if you think I was at all serious (I hope not) then let me acquaint you with Anchorman (or not -- I can't find any good clips amidst the bullshit remixes and "hey guys, watch me recite lines from the movie" clips).

Oh snap!  I found one with the line I quoted!

Man, there is a weird sort of free-floating sexism going around lately. Whats with that? We have this thread, that necro'd one in life advice, Khan's weird sexist spree in the Atheism thread--what suddenly got sex-equality pushed to such stature lately?
Also, I'm confused bout the chivalry thing being argued here. Aren't you supposed to hold doors for, you know, everyone, regardless of your or their gender? Its not chivalry, its decency. As for the dinner thing, I think the idea of the man paying comes from the fact the man is traditionally the one who asks the woman out. If you ask someone out, its sort of implied you're treating them. Otherwise, it does come off sort of cheap.
The domestic abuse thing is worrisome, and clearly women have no right to abuse men. I'd agree entirely. But I don't think that has a lot to do with feminism, per se. The real issue is the persistent inequality in politics and business.

You're the only woman I've ever seen here. And I got the idea for this thread from Shrugging Khan's remarks.

You've probably seen Vector, and maybe Janet? There are a few. We're not a majority, but theres a moderately-sized contingent. Forum stats says its three to one, though that does seem a little high.

I doubt you've spent much time looking.  A few more off the top of my head:  Janet, Vector, Merchant of Menace, Metal Militia (I think?).  According to the stats, there are more than 5000 women with Bay 12 accounts.  I very much doubt they're all active, since there are only 319 users online per day on average.

To be honest, I also suspect they're not all women.  Some men can and do claim to be women and vice versa.

We are easy like that...

We care, getting touch with our feminine side. You like?

Don't be. Everything is ok.

No, it depends on what floats your boat.

Yes, dear.

Cheap is good, oh wait.

That depends, just make sure you agree on a "safeword" beforehand. "No" or random screaming doesn't work, make sure its something you pick-out immediately. I like to use "Unicorn" though. It's something that doesn't come up very often.

I agree... no really.

[Disclaimer: tongue in cheek, Don't hit... oh dear god NO.. wait, wait, put tha down... Unicorn UNICORN!!! UNI..]

As for the dinner thing, I think the idea of the man paying comes from the fact the man is traditionally the one who asks the woman out.
And therein lies the problem. I think a lot of gender inequality stems from the dynamics of courtship, where woman is supposed to be passive and the man is supposed to jump through hoops. This passive/active attitude is then transferred to other spheres of life, and women lose out on opportunities because they're perceived as passive by both the environment and themselves. Fixing all this requires massive change in culture, and while we seem to be on the right path there's still a lot to be done. So, if you want to do your part, go and ask out a guy that you like.

Only if you're asking someone out in a romantic context, when you're asking friends to go to the bar with you it's implied you'll take turns paying rounds. And the reason it's expected in a date is the unequal courtship dynamics.

The problem I believe, is that the first and second waves had their reasons. But here's  the problem. The third wave I think threw this whole thing into "Women are superior to men" and that is the general attitude of feminism these days. This view is especially popular around Europe. My sister is a feminist and she claims that it isn't about "women are better than men" it's about equality. Frankly if they wanted equality they shouldn't call it "feminism", as for the "guys shouldn't hit girls" the best thing to do here is try to hit only in self defense and if a woman is ACTUALLY trying to hurt you. Fight! If you think you shouldn't fight her cause she's a woman. You might be a man and are probably much stronger. And remember: Black belts ARE NOT as tough as most people think. The training they get is not very good. Not here at least.

No, that's wrong. It's second wave feminism that was ALL MEN SHOULD BE SUBJUGATED, then most feminists realised that was insane and garbage and hence we get more moderated third wave feminism, which is what most feminists subscribe to today.

That a terrible idea! If a woman is good at shooting but can't carry her equipment. SHE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED on the battlefield. To be a soldier you must be strong above all things. Women aren't as strong as men. This is an undeniable fact.

The reason women aren't allowed on the battlefield has nothing to do with 'being strong'. Soldiers aren't fighting each other in hand to hand combat, strength is only important as far as it allows you to carry your equipment, stamina is a far more important quality. The reason women aren't allowed into combat squads is that research indicates if there's a woman in the squad the men will take undue risks contrary to their training to protect the female squad member.

Also, this thread got ridiculously sexist the minute I turned my back. 'I CAN'T PUNCH A WOMAN WHERE ARE MY EQUAL RIGHTS???'

Who says we aren't? I slapped a woman across the face a year ago, because that was the bet and she lost it. If I had lost the bet, I'd fully expect her to do the same.
