Trading crash
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:03:00 pm »

Whilst trading with an elven carvan the game simply quit (with a Windows error). I had just been adding items to my list of trade goods to see what would be enough to get the items I wanted. If this happens again, how can I provide useful information?

If you can get it to happen again, things I would check for:
-What were you adding when it crashed (is it a specific item/type of item?)
--If not one of the above
---were you hitting a certain weight total?
---were you crossing a certain number of total items?
---were you hitting a certain value?

(Just my 2c on things I would check)

Somebody reported this if the trade values are exactly equal?  Does that sound accurate?  Seems like something that could be a divide by zero if I did something dumb.

I'm not sure as I was just randomly adding things to try and complete the trade. I could only see the weight, not the value. I need a dwarf with a skill before I can see the value, right?

On the other hand, the game crashed (exited) recently whilst I was working in another application. I wonder if there are any compatibility issues with Vista? I was using XP before...

Yeah, a dwarf with novice appraisal skill will show you the values.  The first dwarf to arrive at the depot for trade gets a bit of the skill with every caravan, but it might be best to spend enough for novice at the beginning.

The original lead that it was equal values didn't work out, and I can't get it to reproduce after several trades.  Additional information from anybody would be handy for this one.  Of course, if somebody gets lucky and has a save where it'll crash when you trade certain items reliably, that would be very nice, but anything is more than what I've got now.

This just happened to me. The first dwarven caravan arrives, I order the dwarves to move a bunch of food barrels there, and I wait. The merchants head in the general direction and my dwarves load up the depot with barrels. I then order my dwarves to move all my rope reed cloth and pig tail cloth into the depot. Game crashes.

This happened to me as well.

I was randomly adding items to trade and hitting (t)rade, hopefully to get a decent deal. Then after about the fifth mechanism I added BOOM crash.

The game had an awesome start too. I almost cried.
OTOH it is fun to try the alpha before anyone has spoiled it on the wiki yet. 5 deaths so far and each of them invigorating! (bad choice of word?)

Regards
