Eternal battle ???
« on: December 16, 2010, 07:42:07 am »

I've got an unusual situation in my newes fort...

Downloaded the latest update (31.18) and started playing.
Everything was fine, with my two axedwarves each killing two Grimelings, until the caravan arived in the autumn...

The escort (one sword-dwarf and one hammerdwarf in good armor) engaged a single Grimeling. After a few days, I decided to help them out and sendt my own two axedwarves...

Now the winter has arrived and the battle has been going on for 3 months...
No damages to any of the dwarves, other than some scratches that heal in a day or two, and the Grimelin is all red. But the dwarves stil seem unable to land anything other than "X hacks The Grimeling in the upper body with her (copper battle exe) tearing apart the muscle"...

Counting backwards, the battle-log contains about 20 entries for each day, but only the last 146 pages are avaliable to me.

Anyone know what's going on there?  ???

ps: But on the upside: both my axedwarves are now legendary fighters, and closing on master axedwarf skills.... :P

sounds like the ultimate sparring partner,
see if you can cage it, then make a training room for your militia =D

and if you dont want to follow eviljawa's advice, try a dwarf with a different weapon.
a hammer (blunt force, aka, breaking bones) or a spear (piercing damage,AKA brain on a stick) might be more effective.

Right now there are two axelords, one hammerlord and one swordmaster in the battle against the Grimelin. :P

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Grimeling the wiki description isn't much to go by, but the 40d info seems correct regarding it's toughness compared to the first 4 my dwarves killed.
The first 4 where killed within a day or two by relatively inexperienced axe-dwarves.

and trapping it isn't going to be easy, since the battle is at the very edge of the map and has only moved 4-5 squares in either direction over the last 9 months :P

Ah, that explains it. Grimelings were notorious in 40d for being near-unkillable, because they don't bleed or have any organs or many body parts for that matter, because, you know, they're plants.
