Eight years.

I found this in the original Dwarf Thread "Back to the dwarf game..."
Since Toady is never wrong, this means that DF will be finished in a mere 2 years!

On a side note and to make this an actual discussion topic, what will you do the day (or days following) the 1.0 release of DF?

The flaw with this is the part where you say that Toady is never wrong. When it comes to ETA, Toady is generally always wrong. Which, of course, is why he's stopped giving ETAs with any amount of precision.

That said, DF in two years will be far more awesome than the current version, for sure. It will have caravans (and economy), armies (and conquest), and whatever various things Toady slates after those.

Waiting for the first patch to come out and moping around that I need to gen 50 worlds to find a suitable embark spot.

Then try to flood the whole world with magma ( if it isn't a working feature by then )

I think it is more likely 8 years from now. There is no problem - I'm here 4 years already and it is being a very fun ride.

hell yeah!, secretly everyone who played DF, is slowly being turned into a dwarf by BAY NET, and is waiting for when it is complete by Toady before it launches its world domination Script, Every DF player will just be a mindless slave to BAY NET, as it takes over the world WITH !!!MAGMA!!!

1) Check if the quark/gluon bugs from 0.99 have been fixed yet
2) Build a computer in DF capable of running an earlier version of DF

How long has Toady been working on DF? Eight years?

If he keeps working at the same pace, he'll be done around 2028, barring unforeseen hangups.

I'm sure it's already been explained that DF will not be finished in Toady's lifetime.

Not to worry though, he'll create a cyborg son to carry on his work.  Let's just hope he can teach it how to love with enough time left to give it some basic programming skills.
