I think I have been inspired, here. I want to make a dwarven paradise. I know we can't have booze fountains yet. But I will usher in a whole new era of lovely waterfalls and mist generators.
All cliffs will be surrounded by wall grates.
Magma heating System will be installed under all living areas.
The dining hall will span an entire Z level, and be masterfully engraved.
The fortress will survive with barely any need to work, other than to cook more food and brew more booze.
There will be no military, just ballista practice.
All barrels will be masterwork, and studded with gems.
All beds will be masterwork, and studded with gems.
All meals will be masterwork, and... ok. no gems there.
Every dwarf will have 4 masterwork cabinets to keep their ≡silk clothes≡ in.
... I am rubbing my hands with glee just thinking of all the unfortunate byproducts of this quest for utopia.
failed moods. angry nobles. ambushes run rampant outside the castle walls. undesirables thrust into the caverns to fend for themselves. Rotting Masterwork Food Tantrums...

*Face palm*
It's not a DF thing, its a Lovecraft thing. Or atleast a Cthulu thing, I think even though Ithaqau was in the mythos, it wasn't Lovecraft. Maybe, it could have been him.
Somebody needs to make it a DF thing. XD

If both wikipedia and my memory are correct, it was originally a native american mytho (wendigo?) that either Lovecraft or someone writing a Cthulu story used... I want to say HP used it in a short story, then someone else took it and ran with it...

Thank you.
The important thing that seperates Ithaqua from the rest of the mythos, is that it has one of the few names I can remeber how to spell the majority of the time, a truely unique feature.

A world in which your future, and the future of every dwarf around you is controlled by a lunatic whose only goal is to have "fun"? I'd say that's some scary place to live in.

Purely from memory, I get: Azathoth, Yog Sosoth, R'Leyh, Shub Niggaroth. Probably wrong, but it's from memory. I'd probably get more if I actually played my copy of Arkham Horror...

Fixed. Also, Cthulhu, The Yith, The Elder Things (?), The Mi-Go, The Shoggoths, Dagon and Hydra, Nyarlathotep (?)...

Dwarf fortress is grimdark:
-grievous injuries? check
-starvation, dehydration? check
-monsters everywhere? check
-death, death and more death? check
-pillage? check
-heroes dying in horrible ways? check

Also all this cthulhu talk gives me a mental image of dwarf fortress with humans and lovecraftian horrors.

...and that my friends, is awesome!

Worst part: some of the stuff you guys make in your fortresses. Seriously, most people who play dwarf fortress are insane.
NO NOT THE COMBINATION DROWNING/MAGMA WHIRLPOOL/CUISINART TRAP!!!!

I love that trap!
It ends with all the gibbets and stuff being swirled down into the obsidian generator and encased, to be mined for bones and goblinite. It's like your own personal Pompeii.

What's wrong with being the owner of an airship dedicated to the Blood God, serving as his "fist of justice", created with the blood of at least 350 of it's engineers varnishing it?

What's wrong with that is that your 'airship' doesn't fly.
