lol well of course if your curious peek through the raws however this is a feature i am proud of.
the Melting pot feature. All species living in the same fortress each with there own advantages and disadvantages.
now you will need to manage your species carefully some don't like hard laber and will just drop the rock and wonder off.
some eat alot and some eat little some sleep alot some never sleep (robots) some are even nocturnal.
although currently im having a small isue... Taurun tend to ahm... Eat eachother... small problem should be dealt with soon.

Another thing worth noting! It took alot of tweaking to stop the robots from being able to rip a Tauruns arms off with a flick of the wrist... or the opposite being shaken a little and breaking them.

you see it was a 3 day challenge to get them perfect.

Ah balencing acts... So much fun.
So whats the melting point of your robots? Yes, this is a critical piece of information. When I throw a robot into a magma tube to test for depth, I expect the robot to be content to sit and wait for me to tunnel down there and devise a way to get it out.

hmm? I havent really worked that part out yet I have the robot built but still need to work out the kinks.
however if you Pitch a Number I will add it since you probably understand melting points better then 'I
you see Iv spent most my time learning to mod now.

I would need to test the ins and outs of the game to learn the boundary of melting points

Well there are four ways to go about it.
The first is to make sure that the creature is made from only things that don't melt, so a creature made from pure iron should be fine.
The second is to go into inorganic_metal and up the boiling points on what ever you use.
The third is to declair a new material within the creature object, using a metal as a template, and making the melting point higher.
And the last is to add [FIREIMMUNE] to them, but then this has the disadventage of making them immune to all heat, so if you had a monster running around, shooting burning thermite, then it wouldn't melt your robots, even though it should.

Realistical, 4 is easyest, 1 is also easy, effecient and has realisem, 2 isn't hard but will affect things you might not want to change, and three can be very annoying, but offers the most controll, and high levels of realisem.

I would just make robots out of a magma safe metal.

alright thank you sir this will be a good help i will get to this Asap. At this moment I am expanding the Attack Calls. Adding a certain something to the combat. at least 8 calls for each weapon and adding hand to hand attacks for a whole new side of combat.

Gauss? *Flashback to Fallout2* such a nice weapon.
What kind of power will the weapons have?
Will they sever limbs?
What kind of stuff will we be able to make from Spoiler metal?

as far as I know nobody else has implemented Roaming raiders.

You do, of corse realise, that after reading that I need to take a peek at your raws to see what and how. Also, technically, ion and gause are the same thing, ion and plasma are also very similar. BUT this is geek sci fi, nobody realy cares, gauss sounds cool enough to be it's own thing. Its like saying I'm going to hit you with my photon blaster. In real life, that implys shine a flash light on you, but for finctional means its a weapon of uber destruction.

I thought a Guass gun was a miniature magnetic accelerator rail cannon...An ion gun would be like directed lightning.

also, weapons...how about Monofilament Blades?  A single-atom width wire held in a set of clamps (like a cheese saw but awesomer), sometimes super-heated, either in a sword form or "axe" (monofilament on one end, metal spike on the other).  They used to be staples of old sci-fi novels before everyone went all "lazor swordz".

Well to answer the first question.
Lasers do Blunt Damage
Plasma Edged

It was a system my brother worked out however if anyone has any changes they would like to suggest i will accept most ideas

Have you thought about graphics already? If not, i could help you design some unique sci-fi graphics set for your mod...

holy shit get me in when you're done!

oh, and things from Battletech would be awesome! http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_Page fpr info about that kind of stuff

gauss is magnetically accelerated slugs [that plow through you]. ion is magnetically accelerated charged particles [that go through you and leave insane innards damage]. plasma is hyper-heated "gas-type-thing" [that just melts you] (look at wikipedia)

from this, gauss is edged, ion is blunt (similar effects anyway) and plasma is... fire-breath-attack

Its too bad that Toady took out the old range of damage types isn't it? If Toady ever reinstates HEAT or BURN as damage types for attacks in a later release you should change the lasers to one of those...

A thought regarding the lasers. Assuming that the lasers are cliche visible spectrum lasers and not infrared, they probably shouldn't be blunt, as blunt weapons can damage internal organs without damaging the outer portions of the body. I recommend that you change the lasers to low mass EDGEd weapons with high velocity multipliers. (of course I haven't actually tested either interpretation so yours may very well work out better after all...)

For plasma weapons, the optimal thing would be, if a non-buggy way to do this could be worked out, to have plasma as a seperate material with a very high fixed temperature (although it might be difficult to work out a way to do this in DF's weapon system without causing anybody carrying ammunition to catch fire)
