the best foreign weapons???

in my personal oppinion its the morningstar... but then again i like spikes.

Whips and Scourges of course.

Scimitars have excellent slashing abilities.

Large Daggers are surprisingly good against armor from what I hear.

Halberds are the most consistent weapon against all kinds of foes.

The most common description of whips is "tiny supersonic hammers."

I have no opinion here, as I modded dwarves to be able to make anything. Except scourges, because I forgot them.

Both Large Daggers and Whips have very small contact points for their attacks, so all of the force gets concentrated on one tiny area.

... Kobold thieves tend to slice off hands, heads, and other appendages with annoying regularity.

Picks are pretty nasty too.
If possible I always try to get one in adventure mode. They really are surprisingly deadly, not to mention quite easy to find.

They are 2handed so can screw up shield users. However they are great against armour and use the mining skill, so you can draft miners into the military and have strong ready for combat soldiers.

Miners can often brain ennemies in one shot, so yes.

Dwarves keep swapping  picks at the stockpiles unless you have manually assigned particular pick to particular dwarf.
So it'll be difficult to pack your military with pickdwarves exclusively. But if you draft miners and throw them in combat right away they may keep their picks with them (or throw away right in front of enemy)
