This is ridiculous (warning(?) google BS)
« on: December 15, 2010, 05:15:30 am »

Does anyone know how to report a Google result as inappropriate? Because if I go Google search about Pokemon and not even go two pages without seeing hentai on STRICT search, then there is something wrong with google.

Seriously, this is a bit ridiculous. I'm going to have to start spoilering the word
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Just in case some child (or other child really)starts finding porn.
Discuss, and other stuff.

Hm, I have to admit it's getting out of hand.

I search 'Anime Male' on google for insperation on new things to draw, strict search, and still get the odd hentai.

Also, Pokemon is the internets plaything atm, I guess Rule 34 is going strong these days...

Any way i can take it down or report so that it at least won't be viable on safe search? I'm all for arts and stuff but you I'm going to have to pull a 'Think of the children' on this one. I know this is the internet but still...

I do agree with that, as I know a lot of kids like Pokemon and will no doubt be wanting some cool images of 'em for the sake of having them. With them having access to the internet...

Hell, even I'M thinking about the children here! This is srs!

It should be censored.

Maybe a option for the masses to report would be in order. (auto-ban after x reports untill a google checker looks it up)
Google probably searches the page itself for text like 'hentai' 'sex' 'pr0n' and stuff like that, if a hit is found, then the image goes to SafeSearch.

But it didn't...
I managed to find a way to report it.

Still, a second pager on strict search of a fairly popular thing is a bit much.

Yes, goole use programs called Spiders which trawl the net, looking at Meta Tags mostly and pulls up the results. Obviously, if those tags aren't implemented it doesn't know...

I think an if x amount of hits to ban, then taken off idea would work but it would still require people to see the image and press a "DO NOT WANT!" button. Which I don't think would work as they'd go on the image and then just click off in disgust.

Integrate it in the result page instead of the page after that?

I don't have pages on google image search anymore btw, its one endless stream :)

Yes, like when you hover over the image and you get it coming up with a zoomed up image there could be a report button, that would work.

Checkers could then force the website to implement the relevant tags on the image, that would work I'd asume.

If I'm not doing anything in a bit (currently rushing some course work and Bay12'ing) I'll do it if no one else does.

I don't see anything Google could really do in this case, outside of providing the tools needed to report inappropriate images.  Which they already do. Of course, Google, being Google, already has thought up another method, and they do so through an inbetween tag level, which gets it keyword from users, played through a game. Two users try to match descriptive phrases to an image, when both users match a phrase it gets added.

Now, if you're of age, you can compare the difference between gardevoir with strict and no restrictions. There is a major difference in the amount of adult materiel brought up. To me, this shows, that their filter is quite competent. So yea, I dont see this as failure or incompetence on Google part at all. There is no way for them to catch all naughty images. It seems to catch most of them.
