The 5 dwarves of war
« on: December 14, 2010, 01:07:32 pm »

The story: The king was looking for a bodyguard. He made challenges to find the best dwarf but no matter what he threw at them 5 dwarves still managed to pass the challenge. So the king decided to send the 5 best dwarves away into the wilderness. Whoever is the last one still being able to fight wins.
The king knew he would be too old by the time the winner would return so he sent the queen there. He also sent a servant to help the queen and the 5 mighty dwarves.
He trusted the queen but not enough to give her full right of choosing what to do so he divided the power along the queen and the 5 dwarves. The queen got 35% of the power and each of the 5 battle dwarves got 13% while the servant got none. Whoever wins will be crowned king of the new kingdom that has been made there and will have slightly more rights than the queen.
The deal: I will be the servant. I choose nothing and only carry out commands. I have 1 point in: Mining, Carpentry, Woodcutting, Masonry, Animal training, Butchery, Brewing, Cooking, Mechanics, Architecture.
The other dwarves will be selected by you. The queen can only have social skills and the 5 other dwarves can only have military skills. The queen will be expediton leader, bookkeeper, broker, manager.
Any new dwarves with more or equal social and military skills than labors will be killed. No new dwarves will be trained in social or military way. Any new dwarves who are left alive may be claimed by other people.
The queens orders go 1st and then come the orders of the war dwarves. 3 or more war dwarves together have higher rights than the queen though. If the queen dies a migrant will be chosen to her spot. But the migrant has to be female and if many want to be queen then the one with the most social skills gets it.
If any of the 5 war dwarves dies then another dwarf will be trained in military skills. If many want to then the one with the highest military skills will be chosen. The new military dwarf will not be able to win the competition and has less rights than the war dwarves. The rights taken from him/her will be added to the queens and war dwarves rights.

Thank you for reading this wall of text. (If you didn't you really should.) You can take positions of any migrant dwarves. We currently have: a high master grower/novice bone carver/novice miner, a competent fish cleaner/competent strand extractor/adequate fisherdwarf/adequate fish dissector/novice bone carver, a talented herbalist/adequate glassmaker/novice bowyer/novice bone carver/novice shield user/novice armor user/novice observer/novice dodger/novice fighter/novice leatherworker, and a talented engraver/adequate leatherworker/adequate lye maker/novice surgeon, an adequate fish cleaner, and a talented engraver/proficient teacher. I would appreciate (but don't require) people writing stories from their characters point of view. I know I will. Be creative and above all don't forget to have FUN

Yet another thread I make with no replies in 24 hours. Are my ideas really that bad or do you have something against me? But seriously. What would you want from a community game to play it? I want 1 and I don't actually care what kind it is. So as long as it doesn't involve modding the game I think I can do it. Just say what you want!

:D     Thanks for signing up! Maybe this just needed a bump. (Nah it probably still has a problem. =b) Would you still want to start the game if no one else or maybe just 1 or 2 more sign up?

I've noticed this thread when it first popped up, but I've decided I won't be able to actively participate so I didn't answered.
But since you're quite in need of recruits, (and anyways I won't be able to live a day without this forum  ;) ) sign me in.

Name: Di
Profession: Pickdwarf
Skills: Competent Dodger
        Adequate Armor User
        Competent Shield User
        Competent Striker
        Competent Misc Object User
Weapon: Pick (preferably steel one)
(You'll have to assign it as specific weapon in order to prevent him from storing it into stockpile)

Bio: Di isn't wordy one. He wasn't trained as a soldier. He used to be a miner at distant copper mines bordering goblins territory. Worker's life wasn't the priority there, not a single soldier from mountainhomes arrived to protect the camp. So every dwarf there had to use anything at hand to protect themselves. Copper barrels, forks, boots literally everything was used to fight back persistent ambushes. Is there need to tell that miners became major substitution to regular military there (not that there were many non-miners in Coppercascet though) The migration waves were lasting only long enough for next one to arrive, but among those who fell within a week were those who was fencing goblins for years. Such one was Di. However, when the mines were exhausted, it turned out that he hasn't learned much in the mining craft for those years of Goblin fighting. He grew used to shattering skulls with pick though, so when King has announced warriors contest there wasn't any better variants for Di.

Well I don't know what happened but people came. =)
I'll embark and everything right when school ends and I get home tomorrow. So in about... 19 hours? Really that much? Oh well no (normal) way around it.
I'm actually kinda' surprised no one wants to be the queen. I thought she would be the 1st or 2nd dwarf taken. Oh well as long as we have someone to give orders to the servant (me) we can make it.
Nice story Di! And a unique idea to use a pick as a weapon.
So... Anyone want to see some things after embarking? Character pages, worshiped stuff, a 3D map of the embark site? Any requests welcome. =D

Well Metal Militia wanted somewhere evil, I don't have any preferences. Also are you going with standard embark points amount? If so I guess we'll need more food and booze and warriors belongings will have to be delivered with caravans later. If you have tweaked that at the world gen we probably should get locked and loaded from the very beginning.

Edit. Oh and someone really should inform Derm that there's a fortress without his avatar  ;D

I doubt the Soul chopper will miss this.
I think that we should go to a wild area, like a jungle.

The embark site as requested:D
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The evil area was all mountains and with no water source. This is a survival challenge not a suicide mission so I didn't go there. :b
You all got your wanted skills. The queen got 3 points in appraiser, record keeper and organizer and 1 point in leader. The remaining warrior got 2 points in armor user, shield user, dodger, striker, fighter.
Each got a steel weapon of their liking. (Axe, Pick, Sword, Spear.) The unselected warrior got no weapon. And then every warrior also got an iron mail shirt, helm, shield, chain leggings and by accident only 1 high boot and gauntlet for each.
We also got some food, seeds, drink, rope, tools for me, 3 war dogs of each gender and a kitten from each gender.
Here is the embark site. Again. Maybe this one was requested.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The pic was too big for the forums so I made it 4x smaller. Original pic here: http://imgur.com/AfABR.png
So asking again to be sure: Any requests like character pages, deities, relationships? I'm trying to live into my character by writing down his traits.

...The only thing I can think about right now is how happy I am. I just can't believe I was picked to accompany the 5 best warriors of the kingdom. I'm not that good... So I wonder why I was picked? I notice some hungry looking giant eagles soar past us. I am not worried because these warriors won't fall easily. There is still the question of would they protect me. Because even though I try to be friends with them they don't want to be friends with me. It is probably because I am just a useless servant to them. It is even worse with the queen. She has a grudge against me. Now that I think about it, I don't have anyone who cares about me. But that won't ruin my happiness and I will still do my best to help them as it is my duty. Suddenly we stop and I hear the queen telling us we are at our destination. There is a river and some lakes nearby. I also spot 3 wolves in the distance. We are explained some rules and then asked to unpack and get our equipment. I think someone is just doing a bad joke when I find out that I'm supposed to carry a pick and an axe at the same time. I just take the pick and leave the axe but I remain prepared to switch at any time. Everything seems great and I am ready to follow orders.

I say we draw lots, winner fights the wolves, by them selves! And while we are at it, the peasant can start digging some living space for us.
