Graphic pack

ASCII. I love imagining what my fort looks like without the help of graphics. Also, I can't stand the messed up text on certain menus. Maybe there's a way to fix that, but my graphics days are over.

I use ASCII, why? So I can say I do.

ASCII. That is mostly because I'm technology impaired. One day I will use a graphic set and edit it to get _exactly_ what I want (otherwise it's not the bother) but right now I'm too busy playing Dwarf Fortress Also, I'm more interested in learning other things (like modding the game to have sheep, in order to have wool, in order to have clothes made out of wool ; that would be awesome).

What annoys me a lot with ASCII is that they're rectangles and not squares, so North-South distances seems bigger than East-West ones. And I like squares. I can't make one. Aaaaugh. It annoys me. I might fix something just to have my perfect square towers displaying properly.

I usually play with the ASCII, as I suppose it's how Toady intended it, and for readability really. Can't stand the GFX packs because they're just a mess of pixels.

Graphics packs seem to me to be just a mess of images, and it's difficult to differentiate them.

Nevertheless, I may have gone to a graphics pack had it not been for messed up text.  I couldn't bear to read through that consistently, and it was the real turn-off.  I'm used to ASCII, so I'll stick with it.

However, if we ever get 3d graphics..  I've always imagined what dwarf fortress would be like, Black and White (the game) style.  Full range of motion, able to go underground, phased out stone shows you where paths are and how it looks together.  Wonder if my dream will ever come true.

I started out with Maydays pack but after a while started using ASCII and have done ever since. I find ASCII leaves more to my imagination. I must admit I was tempted by Beefmo's creature graphics but they were never finished. I have plans to work on a load of 2 - 3 colour creature sprites that fit with the text. While I currently use ASCII I would use graphics if it looked good enough and didn't inhibit my imagination.

Cool option for me is:
ASCII art (like stones and trees)
Graphics for objects (like dorfs and animals)

Ascii, I started with it and it seems so clean and clear.

The graphics packs little images are way too small for me to read them, while the ASCII font is perfectly sized.

ASCII. Graphics packs mess the interface up too much for my liking. Plus I always liked the concept of graphics being more symbolic than literal.

I have and occasionally still do use ASCII, however for the most part I use Ironhands graphics pack.  There is some part of me that just prefers my trees to look like trees and my skeletal mountain goats to look like tiny lil skeletal mtn goats.  Oh that and the fancy swirly water in Ironhands set, I use water quite a bit, and his water is quite awesome.

ASCII packs. Graphics are for the weak. Also, now I get to make jokes about defragging my processor whenever the uninitiated see it.

ASCII. Probably cuz I'm a modder though. Admittedly, I much more enjoy imagining things since when "the severed part flies off in an arc", the little (or big) creatures... yeh they're not doing anything/moving and it ticks me off. So imagination wins for me. xD
