Benefits of floor
« on: December 14, 2010, 03:20:22 am »

Are there any benefits of building/smoothing floors aside from aesthetical? Do dwarves move faster, or maybe get happy thoughts?

It dramatically raises the value of rooms, especially in places like dining halls, statue gardens, and noble rooms, where high value areas increase how much your dwarves like it.

And if the floor gets wet there won't grow any trees.

And if they don't get wet they also wont grow any trees. It's win-win. Unless you want trees.

It should be pointed out that only constructed floors will block tree growth when muddied - smoothed natural floors (and even engraved natural floors) can still permit plants to grow (and in the case of engravings, it will destroy the engraving, giving the engraver an unhappy thought if it was masterwork).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Not necessarily; you can toggle off the engravings so they look like regular wall/floor, only on a lighter background.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, dwarfs will clean constructed floors and walls more often than natural, smoothed, or engraved. Helpful for when a FB goes rampaging through your dining hall.
