Bad idea to start out with but altered so you don't see my noob-ness new idea below spoiler

Alright I get it multiplayer is a no-no for now... but I was inspired to think along the lines of this but much simpler:

Tag-team endurance!

take 8 players, gen a world them post it up for download split said 8 players into teams of 2. they decide where to embark and who goes first. from there, it work like a succession game with one player passing to the other every "year" then passing it back. the goal? to out last your opponents.
Rules:
non-playing partners and peanut gallery free to suggest/comment on any fort. the only communication playing partners will have will be via updates and in-game notes.

regular succession rules apply as to turns i.e.: one week = one year = one turn.

have fun!

alternativly we could have teams made up of fortress noobs and vets like a noob-vet teams, call it "play n teach enduro" the noob players who half the time dont know what they are doing guarantee "fun" for all!

how bout that?

On a side note, "Hey guys.. (suggestion)" is a terrible topic for a thread. It tells us nothing whatsoever about the content of the message.  That's a problem if I'm latter trying to remember if it's worth reading replys and the subject doesn't prompt my memory about the discussion going on.

Every now and then there is a succession game (like this one: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=67901.msg1627268#msg1627268), where players take turns to govern a fortress for a year. Just sign up in . This is as close to multiplayer, as DF gets.

The best idea I've come across to date is BF2 style, where one player takes over as 'overseer' of the fortress and designates jobs to be done and marks enemies, and other players actually play as the dwarfs. Unfortunately, I only know of 2 computers that would be able to handle a fortress with 7 dwarfs, and it would require a massive overhaul on the coding; scratch that, it would require a lot of coding theory and then massive coding.

Still, the idea is cool and it is there. Sentence that miner to death for choosing to gawk at your chicken statue rather than mining.

We do that for 3 out of each five threads (we also do "There is a search button, learn it). One is like this to remind people, and for one in five the response is to just spam lolcats in the thread.
