Nah. It will always be cheaper to have a specialized simpler thing over a complex adaptable thing. Sure, the consoles will be way more powerful and probably head towards the media center thing, but PCs will always be even more powerful and versatile.

As for the games... I have no idea. I just hope the complex games continue to survive.

If you use emulators you REALLY should buy the game itself and the console, pirating is bad mmkay.
Actually I do believe it's legal to play games on an emulator without owning the console, but I'm not SURE of this, somebody should say.  That being said, like 90% of people who use emulators don't care, myself...not included, I've been playing RE2 and Alundra 2 on a PSX emulator and I actually own both those games, just my PSX is broked and I don't have a TV.  Honestly though, does Nintendo still make any money if you go buy a SNES or Earthbound?

If companies got their way it would be illegal to buy anything someone else already bought.

In fact it should be illegal the way EULA are written but EULAs are pretty much illegal onto themselves.

...and in the age of digital downloads you can buy a lot of SNES games through the market thingy on the WII (for example), so the argument for "how can they still make money from old games? Emulate!" falls apart - as long as the current holder of the rights to the game makes it available.

That's not the legal side, but it's the moral argument.

Drunk post, happy new year and everything like that.

Of course you still can't play earthbound on a wii, and don't forget all those wonderful wonderful SMW romhacks (Though that might well not be legal)

Either way, it's legal to use an emulator as a "Backup" for your games.

You can if you have too much time on your hands...

...as well as other things.

This raises the question: why not just buy a USB controller?!

PC gaming is worse than dead.

It is now dominated by Farmville etc.

Well, it's like bringing up Chuck Norris in a X vs. X scenario. You win, but nobody cares.

Jellyman's argument is still standing. Games that tap into the reptilian hindbrain and exploit the customer with nary a whiff of quality do dominate the market. While one brave indy game gets a few thousand fans for free, millions more pay real money to buy a new barn or chicken with a different colour scheme. Again and again.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

They're already doing this.
  • I'm not sure what the legal status IS of transferring/reselling software licenses.
  • One reason for selling downloadable content (and online distribution of games) is that it's now that much harder to resell/gift your games to someone else.
